The idea of dragon forging isn't that far out I found a book while browsing the CS called 'Tamrielic Lore'
So a dragon could be involved but perhaps diamond plate armour is a bit to impossible but I'm all for the studded kind and wepons such as spears and daggers maybe even arrows and boltsGoldbrand
This magical sword is almost a compleat mystery. Thieves telltales about its golden make and how it was actually forged by ancient dragons of the North.

There is a difference with taht, you said foring by melting diamonds. I this case it was probably forged in a different manner if it was indeed forged that way. Dragons are quite different in TES the the great beasts that guard hordes of treasure.Mavus wrote:The idea of dragon forging isn't that far out I found a book while browsing the CS called 'Tamrielic Lore'

ok lets leave dragons out of it for the moment and think, how about instead if creating all new wepons because I would be expensive and difficult, these thing wont exactly be mass produced in Tamriel but perhaps somone could upgrade one of your wepons by giving it a diamond edge, making it do and extra 5 damage in each attack
eg.
before
Chop 5-10
Slash 4-8
Thrust 7-14
after
Chop 10-15
Slash 9-13
Thrust 12-19
the details are debaitable but Its quite a cool idea
or we could go with the classic 'ancient artifact hidden in forgoten tomb'
cliche

Dragons aren't real, how do we know that a dragons fire wouldn't turn it to coal(I think is what someone said). You could say that maybe dragons are able to melt the diamonds and within 10 minutes a powerful mage would have to work with it by using magics. Then it could be fortified.
Diamond edge weapons sounds like a good idea. But, I say that they should be there own weapons and not enhnced current weaponry. Perhaps maybe a very wealthy noble could have a pure diamond blade for ceremonial purposes, like maybe a king or ruler of a province. Or maybe even the emperor himself!

no offense, but its because you dont know what the hell you are talking about.Dragons aren't real, how do we know that a dragons fire wouldn't turn it to coal(I think is what someone said). Coal is fossiliesd plant material, how the hell can you get that by burning a diamond? and the temperatures required to melt diamonds are enough to simply disintergrate any organic thing within 6 inches of the blast, and half the heat of the sun itself (so you'd need a resist fire 9999% spell to make it so the flame "only" does 100 damage per second). Not to mention the temperature would be enough to liquify the prongs you are using within 30 seconds. in other words, forging diamonds is f'ing retarded bullcrap that is truly and utterly impossible.
However, I like the idea of coating swords with diamond dust - as it would be quite possible, you would just need to dip the sword in crushed diamond right after taking it out of the fire (while still red with heat) then after 2 minutes swish it around a bit, then put it back in the fire (to make the diamond dust merge together a bit). However, repairing it would be quite difficult.

Diamond and coal are carbon. Diamond has a crystalline lattice which lends it far more strength than coal. Melting it would destroy that lattice.
Diamnods are formed when coal is put under incredible heat and pressure, so I suppose you could use a dragon as part of a process to forge diamond, and you would only have to start with coal. Unfortunately you would need incredibly powerful magics to generate the compression and keep it from burning up, and I doubt you could keep that up long enough to make any significant amount of diamond, much less shape it.

You know what would be great, but cruel? Have many people talk about diamond armor, then send the player on a huge quest for it only to find that it was only a myth after all. It would be horribly cruel, but just imagine the look ona player's face after he's spent 100 hours exploring Tamriel to complete a quest for an item that doesn't even exist.

Or even better yet, make up several god-like artifacts that are red herrings. Each looooong quest leads to another and in the end, the player discovers that the artifacts are the victims of exagerration and are really just ordinary enchanted itmes. But a cryptic note lets them talk about the diamond armor to select folks in Tamriel. Then we hit them with the faked diamond armor quest. If they aren't tearing their hair out by then, they're made of tougher stuff than me.
I love sirwootalots idea of diamond dust but lets get one thing straight:
Tamriel is not National Geographic
In real life diamonds are found in the ground are rare on expensive and are one of the hardest objects on earth
In RPGs, taking Diablo 2 for example I know Elder Scrolls is better but thats why I,m not using it, Diamond pop out of anyou ay random zombie and can be found every half hour by inserting them into wepons with holes in you can do 20% extra damage to the undead, it serves the zombies right for having them anyway.
But of coarse The world of Tamriel is more realistic but not that realistic.
So forget reality and think how we can actually put this through the construction set
and in answer to your first critasism as you no doubtedly have many:

well diamonds is carbon that crystalized under very high presure so why not make a forge that works by a npc on a rock and a mage that casts burden 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 points and a molded armor of diamond is done maybe to activate it you need a book so the wizard can let the diamond harden through time like in the rw
uh so your are the blades where are the sharp sides if i may ask

well firstly I would like to say I ahve no strong opinions on this so don't get mad at me
1) Diamonds strength literraly means it can with stand large pressure compared to wieght not to heat
2) you can combust diamond at 600'F in around 20 minutes
3) burden only works on living things
4)diamonds are NOT alive
5)diamonds are quite cheap compared to silver and platnium

the AMOUNTS of diamonds needed would be indescribable. A piece of silver the size of a gumball is the same worth as a piece of diamond the size of a B.B. bullet.
Plus, diamond doesnt melt at 600F, it shatters. it doesnt melt until a temperature almost that of the sun (15000 F).

diamond
a diomond is not strong, though it is the hardest element. its hardness just means that it can scratch other materials that could not scratch it, i think i learned it in science class a couple of years ago.
I'm not sure if i'm right, i'm trying to rember something that i learned years ago. anyway, you guys probably know more that me.

It is incredibly strong, but it would be very impractical to try and fashion it into a suit of armour, also diamond doesn't come in armour-sized pieces, you reckon you can just find a piece bigger than your chest around?
It's not an element BTW Negrodomous it's carbon like what we're made of but with 4 bonds between each atom creating a perfect lattice structure IIR my GCSE science classes properly.
It takes a whole crapload of time to make naturally so find chunks large enough to actually produce armoour would be almost unheard of. Making it articificially is a relatively recent invention and I rather doubt they can do that on Tamriel, unless you say a really powerful mage could exert the needed pressure on the carbon like Tylium suggested

In our real world, there are 'crystal skulls,' which were made out of large pieces of diamond, worn down with sand over hundreds of years. Basically, the father would pass the skull down, generation to generation, and each man would spend most of their adult lives working the skull down with only handfulls of sand.
There have only been 3 or 4 of these found (I believe they were made by the Aztecs) and they are perfectly sculpted. You can see a picture of one here:
We could have a unique piece of armour done in this style, taking hundreds of years, created by one family. It isn't impossible, just time consuming.
Just a thought.

No diamond armour. It is physically and practically impossible to make, and just because it looks cool doesnt mean we should make it.

While 'diamond' can be artificially produced it's not usually of the same quality of naturally occuring diamonds and aren't usually used for jewelery as people want the 'real deal' though it is now possible to make artificial diamonds pretty much any colour you want from pink to black. It all depends on the impurities that are added during creation.Comrade Smith wrote:crystal skulls would be odd to find lying around and so I was off on the price who cares I was thinking of todays value which is cheap because it can now be artificaly produced

there could be diamond studded armour but the other material would have to be some sort of hide or cloth.

I don't know if someone's already said this because I only read the first five posts, not the whole four pages. Anyways: Why not? Glass is Brittle, but it is an armor in morrowind. However, anywho, I frankly just don't like the image I get. I say nay.
