The New and Improved uber creature guide

Post by Assassinace »

*NEW* Scroll down for creature pics

This is an attempt to create a comprehensive guide to TR’s creatures lore and otherwise.
A=Arena
B=Bloodmoon
D=Daggerfall
L=Lore (official stuff talked about in bethesda's lore but not the games)
M=Morrowind
O= (Bethesda Downloadable Mods)
T=Tribunal
R=TR (stuff made for Tanrial Rebuilt)
Also I will break it up into morrowind and other provinces (if unspecified I will put it it tamriel)
Finally this is for stuff that's been more or less established. If you say hey that would be cool it probably goes in another thread.

Also Creatures with a * are in the game. If there is no astrix then it isn't in the game yet.

Here is what I would like people to do. If you know that a creature should be moved or added please post it as well as any possible surrounding info.
Any creature approved for TR please tell me here what they are as they come out if possible.
Finally after this has been checked over a bit and the TR creatures added it might be a good idea to sticky this in the creature modeling area to show what creatures should be done or found if any modelers get the time.

I can't take total credit for the fish (done by Barabus) or the esurio (collaboration with Majra). Excluding those and excluding re-skins, I counted about 18 diffent animated models. Morrowind shipped with 47. I have a little catching up to do, as I want to do at least 47 new monsters for each province.

Durzogs live in Summerset Isles. I heard that from a developer on TES forums. I dont have a link but look 'Durzog' up on the forums.

Oh and isnt there a frost giant in Bloodmoon?

And those bipedal mammothlike things in Bloodmoon are also known as ice trolls in the CS.

Does anyone know if Vampire Ancient from daggerfall was a truely separate creature or if they were just an older more powerful vampire? The name would suggest that they are older and more powerful. The description in the Daggerfall hint book says they are to vampires what vampires are to humans. And to make it a little more murky. Would it be known even to scholars whether vamprie ancients are a separate creature type? I would imagine it is quite hard for anyone to get a vampire ancient to sit down and talk with you.

Vampire ancients had different base spells than vampires. But then it was things like paralyze instead of sleep...

I though all the Vampires had different spells anyways, besides it makes sense that a Vampire Ancient would have much more and different spells then the younger ones.

In daggerfall you got vampire spells based on the vampire clan you were bitten by plus the base vampire spells (sleep and levitate). You never became an ancient and I never noticed a vampire ancient casting a clan specific spell.

There are more clans then just those ones. However you should try and catch Vampirism from an ancient and see what happens, but just because one never cast one doesn't mean it wasn't a Vampire. Vampires in Morrowind are much different from those in the West, but they are still Vampires.

I was reading an old daggerfall book. Lore of the illilac bay says that there are mermaids and giant tentacled beasts in the bay. Also in redguard there are some really really really viscious sharks. If you went in the water you were dead.

Yeap. Durzogs and goblins are inhabitans of Summerset Isles. And they were imported to Mournhold.

For the Durzogs, look on the TES Forums and look up 'Durzog'. A Developer says a bunch of info on Durzogs.

I think the giant raven referance come from a Bloodmoon dialog which mentions the Glenmoril witches who show uo to offer a cure for lycanthropy if you happen to have it. It says "Have you seen the size of that raven over by Thrond's Altar. People think it's a sign that the Glenmoril witches have come to Solstheim.", or something to that effect, it's not an exact quote. If you ask me, it refers to the unusually large size of the raven (that is actually a witch) & not a giant one per say.

Thanks.
In that case it would be an animal (or a witch). And in either case won't need to be added to the creature list. (All animals and humans are presumed to be already added.)

Two more lorish creatures discovered running through the spell list.
Medusa
Earwig

Ok so technically an earwig is to small to be useful to TR. Unless we make it something more highly evolved and evil...

Sorry more highly evolved and evil is a quote me and some of my friends use to make fun of horror movies. "Its a movie about rats. But they're more highly evolved and evil." "Its a movie about insects, but more highly evolved and evil." ... Because you don't get a horror movie that contains just a plain old normal creature minding its business.

Yes we stay away from them unless they were in previous games because that was the stated opinion on what Bethesda wanted to do after daggerfall and because new creatures are more interesting.

However this is not the thread to discuss what creatures would be cool. It is to discuss what creatures of lore are here or too add creatures that have been accepted into the community. Things like discussing which creatures are cool and should be added should have there own thread.

We can assume that Durzogs are at least as smart as modern-day dogs. Since they are obviously under the Goblin's control, we know that they at least obey simple commands such as "stay", "attack", "stop", "come here" and so on. They may be able to communicate with each other through some form, as I can tell you right now that my two dogs can communicate (one of them actually housebroke the other). Durzogs can understand the Goblin language to an extent, recognize their own name, and possibly have a growling "language" of their own.

Nonsense. Zombies are a completely different kind of Undead. There are Zombies in ES. However, Bonewalkers are rather made from more than one corpse, from their looks ... ES zombies look much more like the classical walking dead (including torn clothes and all).

Just because they're both undead doesn't mean they're one and the same thing.

I was looking through the art of morrowind yesterday and the bonewalker was an entirely different creature in the concept art. In the concept art it is a four legged almost kwama like creature with a skull positioned at the front. Its quite creepy.

You forgot the Werevulture and Wereshark under the "were" creature section. They are both mentioned in the Daggerfall book "On Lycanthropy". Also I may be wrong but I think it is werelion instead of weretiger. In the book I just mentioned it said werelion and it said nothing about a weretiger. Course I was tired when I read the book so I could of skipped over weretiger, but i'm pretty sure it's werelion. Or I could be really near sighted and not realized that the community approved the idea of a were tiger. I'll shut up now.

Question... I was browsing around and I noticed the Deadric hound being called a Hellhound a couple times.

I'm curious if there is supposed to be two diffrent creatures or if there actually are plans to ball them up into one? If it's supposed to be one and the same I'm kinda confused. Technically it wouldn't be a Deadra as far as I've collected, which I'll explain in a few moments.

My reason for stating this is becuase in 'Arena' there is a tomb south of Ebonheart of Morrwind that is guarded by Hellhounds. You can go there in the very begining of the game and they will be present. I doubt the Dunmer would use Deadra to guard an ancestrial tomb; which is why I'm stating I believe they're not Deadra. They're not attacking the tomb either, each hound is purposefully locked in a chamber for holding caskets/sarcophagi.

The way they're described in the 'Arena' manual makes them sound more as though they're something akin to an Antranoch (while an Antranoch is summoned a Golem is constructed and brought to life) or maybe just "wildlife" of Oblivion since they're bound to the summoner.... while summoning Deadra is much more dangerous since they're not really bound by anything.

"These canines are actually from the nether planes, usually summoned by some powerful being to perform a service. They attack with their powerful jaws, or with fire breath that burns their intended victims. They are resistant to fire based spells."

The tomb south of Ebonheart would leave room for a quest now that I think about it.

I also wanted to address that there are two types of homonculus, THE Homonculus (as in the dwemer creation) and homonculus as in a "deamon" construct (it's actually made from parts of deamons/Deadra) made by a magick user.

Side question, has it been determined if the "netherplanes" and "Oblivion" is the same? ...and if Deamons and Deadra are the same? I'm curious becuase Hellhounds are from "Netherplanes" as are "Deamons." Or would we assume this is a certain part of Oblivion?

Anyway, I'm done rambaling on about my monster lore. Anyone think I should further address this in the lore section?
Locked
