Corals

Post by Spider »

It's kinda slow-going, but I've been experimenting with my new-found texturing capabilities.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v149/JTI_77/Corals_01.jpg

These are just retextured muck pods made to look like some variety of coral. This texture is still in need of some work, but it illustrates the basic idea. If anyone has an interest, I'd like to see about creating a small pack of undersea statics if I can manage to work out some different varieties of corals and such.

awesome, that would add desperately needed variety. They would also look good in the argon jungle's two major rivers.

Oooh, moon corals! :D My second favorite after open brain coral!

I'd suggest that you keep the tawny color and replace the black with a phosphoresant blue-green or green-yell, that's typically the color for corals of that shape.

As they look now, they'd fit in splendidly with the muddy, ashy theme of the inner sea. We need them! Of course, a more colourful variant for less muddy and ashy regions than Morrowind is very welcome too ...

Look into your PMs folder. I PMed you some of vorr's attempts at underwater statics ... if you want, play with them a bit. :)

Here's an update just to let you know that I'm still fiddling around with this idea. Here in the pic is the origional coral/sponge that I did as well as my latest experiment with creating a larger variety of it (This variant will be scrapped, I don't like the way it appears in-game).

I also did a few re-colors on n'dibs giant kollop, these are still a WIP but are for the most part done.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I kinda figured it would seem a little strangeif it was the same kelp strands, and the same kollops, and the same everything else off the coasts of the entire continent.

Hermit, I got your statics and have been playing around with them. The meshes are great and I've got some interesting stuff beginning to happen with the textures.

Here's where I'm at so far. Not all of these doo-dads have finished textures put on them yet, but are at least close enough to be shown. Let me know what you think...

Thanks, though it's Vorrheis who deserves most of the credit, it was he who created the models.

I've now finished textures for each of the statics, and sometime in the near future here I'll do some more colorful variants for added variety.

I've got something to add if I can find it... I once started a "Tidal Pools" plugin, adding seastars/etc to the tidal pools (you can find most of them around the Telvanni islands, they are little dips in the rock with water in them.) I'll post what I got done, and add some more after I finish animating the Werebear.

Sorry that I've been gone for a while, as the summer progresses the time for moving out and getting a full time job is drawing near, and it's been draining my time and energy. I'll be much more efficient once things settle down again.

Those look really great, eyeball, but I think their colors are a bit too... bright? I think if they were toned down a bit, less noticeable, they'd be a lot better.

I'll tone them down now, and post a screenshot in a bit. :)

I was also going to make a few tiny fish and crabs, like minnows and rock crabs, but I'm still learning how to animate, so I'll stick with my Werebear until I figure that all out.

Wow. Spider and Eyeball, great work! Spider ... make more of these, and make a muddier set, too. Maybe grey and muddy ... like fitting with your corals and shells. Eyeball ... tone them down a bitm and then, we have some mroe great underwater meshes to play with. :)

And Vorrheis ... make some more nderwater meshes ... please?

They've all been toned down... part of the problem I'm having is that they look a lot darker/dimmer in Max/TESCS than they do in the game, so they look really washed out when I render them in Max, but when I plop them into the game they still look kind of bright and gaudy.

Oh well, here's what I've got. 3 shells, 2 sand dollars, and a whole bunch of Seastars and Sunstars.

(I'm having an error whenever I try to upload, so I'll try again later.)

Badass. Just one question, are people adding anything to the sea floor? Every place I've looked (mostly map 1) is completely empty.

For the Sea Anenomes I thought it would be better to have the waving tentacles be part of a plane with opacity, and then doing numerous layers of them. I tried to build a few but didn't have much luck getting the opacity to export properly, but I think it might make the anenomes look more alive.

I really like it all though, the seas are soon going to have more diverse wildlife than the land!

Spider has disappeared for a while, so I'm assuming something bad has happened. When he comes back, we'll compile all of the corals together and send them to OoT.

Hope it will be soon, because I'm detailling map 2 at the moment, and I'm hoping to inculde the corals there (maybe in the waters around kemel-ze)

Still here... heh, I wish I was in Florida. I'd take hurricane Ivan over already having 30 degree nights any day...

Yeah, anyhow I had/have some computer probs, so I'll scrape together what I have left of the files and email them to Yinnie shortly.
