Philosophy/Psychology in Tamriel

Post by vrover »

I was planning to write one or two books of philosophy. As yet, I have not seen any of this in Tamriel, except for Pre-Socratic style philosophy(such as questions of how the universe is constructed, etc).

However, Socratic-style philosophy, which examines how humans should live life, with ethics, morals, and so forth, is largely missing save for that of the Temple, which is not really philosophical exploration but religious doctrine. I might, in my book, go into some of Socrates', Plato's and Aristotle's teachings. After that, possibly in another book, possibly not, I'd go into Modern philosophy, like Descartes' stuff.

Some of this would obviously be just rephrasing of our world's philosophers' writings. What I was planning to do, since there's a definite limit on how long a Morrowind book can be, was outline the main ideas of the philosophers, like ethics and justice.
I may have to make separate books for each topic, or just one general book. I've searched for Philosophy and psychology in the lore and literature forums, with no results besides a planned book by Darnoc, and a planned book on Fate, by BalinMinister. I feel there's room for a book. The author would probably either be Breton or Imperial, possibly Altmer.

Also, while I'm making this thread, I might as well add: Another project I was thinking of doing was, don't laugh, a self-improvement book. Basically, it's just a book on organising your life, like most self-improvement books of today, except obviously most of the terms would be changed. There wouldn't be nearly as many buzzwords as most of these books usually have, but the idea would still be the same. I'm still wondering if it should have a Temple influence or not, perhaps you have some ideas?
No, as a matter of fact I do not know what you're talking about, and frankly I find you smelly and disappointing.

Thumbs up for the first one. I'd say no temple influence on the second one, but thumbs up for that one as well. Maybe seek Majra's advice for your writings?

First things first. 1 book at a time.

Your idea is ok, only problem is, the way you have outlined it, it would be a miscellaneous book, and as I have said, I will keep these ratios to make sure things do not become unbalanced with book releases. If you change it to be more specific to a certain cultural or religious aspect, then it would fit in those respected claims. Also, be careful when discussing pyschology(sp?). Youd be suprised how much of a modern thought it really is. I will not accept any books written with contemporary slant.

So what I ask is, you make a formal claim outline, you can do it in this thread, that follows the format I want so that I can go over the specifics and see if it is acceptable. Gratzi

Title: A Handbook for the Devout
Author: Dramar Thelon
Author Race: Dunmer
Genre: Religious
Setting: No real setting
List of Characters: Probably one or more members of the Tribunal, might mention some saints, but probably not.
Plot: No real plot. Basically, a self-improvement book, except it focuses on improving the mind/body through devotion to the Temple and religion, somewhat like a Christian pamphlet. Will include suggestions for prayer routines, etc.
Possible Lore Issues: Might conflict with normal Temple daily prayer and ceremony routines, since we, or at least I don't know much about them, but I'll try to work around that by suggesting that readers do the practices described in the book "in addition to their normal prayers".

MD system ID: 04.3.FT.NF-NM.SG

I might be wrong about the Favoured By Tribunal, but I couldn't find any "Favoured by Temple" ID. Do you think it fits?
No, as a matter of fact I do not know what you're talking about, and frankly I find you smelly and disappointing.

yea I will allow it if you study up a bit more on what the actual prayer ceremonies are like. Granted
