I didn't see it offhand, Stalker, but I remember reading that it's going to be dunmer-only.

Even if it's Dunmer-only player is considered to be an outlander even if he's Dunmer. Or no ?

Well, it's a joinable faction, so *someone* has to be able to join :D.

Dres, among Indoril, should indeed be dunmer only. To me it just makes since. Also, I would be crushed if Dres wasn't joinable, period. I would cry.

For dres no non-dunmer can join whatsoever, and for indoril non-dunmer may only join if they are very high up in the temple.

All that is up to Yinnie to decide, I haven't heard anything on it so we cannot assume anything as of yet.

Maybe we should do it this way:

Topic "Join":

Join Hlaalu. They'll accept outlanders, like you!

Possible Answers:

1. Ok. You'll never see me again.

Nothing happens...

2. I really want to join House Dres, and I'll find a way to do it.

A little Quest will begin. (Not a normal Quest, he should think, that it is a hazard) In that quest, you'll (for example) have to defend an old man (from House Dres), who's attacked by Members of House Hlaalu (or whatever). After this Quest you'll be able to join.

no, that is crap. NO OUTLANDERS IN DRES. maybe altmer, but mot likely not. Yinnie's been telling me about this stuff.
In fact, we are aready breaking lore by making non-native dunmer able to join the house (dres consider them to be the worst traitors possible ).

Eh, non-native Dunmer are Outlanders. Outlanders are anybody born outside of Morrowind. Even a Dunmer.

And an Altmer in House Dres? If you asked the Altmer, he'd say they're beneath him. If you asked the Dres, they'd be disgusted and probably highly insulted that you would suggest that they associate with Altmer. Altmer and Dunmer aren't exactly fond of each other, according to lore.

House Dres is highly based on slvery. There are many Altmer slaves, it would be insulting if an Altmer were to to ask to join. Any other race would be just as insulting. Especially Agonians they, being from province just south of Dres territory, are slaves in high numbers for Dres. An aronian asking to join and getting in would be absoulute blashemy. Making it dunmer only would be the most logical way to work, accoring to lore.

no, that is crap
You're crap.

Anyways, I am forced to agree with the rude little 14 year old. Dres is very strict about who they let in. It would be a stretch to make it joinable, since they do not let outlanders in, and the PC is an outlander (even if you chose Dark Elf as your race). I think that in order to join, you will have to find a way to weasel your way in, perhaps by forging some documents that prove you are a native-born Dunmer. But no outlanders, that would be lore-breaking.

I don't know, my thoughts on House Dres are that they wouldn't accept a beast race (their favourite slaves) or an Altmer, but anyone else they might, if that person was shrewd enough. If you could prove yourself to e shrewd and have the qualities that the Dres admire, then maybe they'll let you in and then make it very hard for you to advance? (More quests, more difficult objectives, etc.) Because it's either "let in those who prove that they are bad-ass enough," or "don't let anyone in because they hate everyone but Dunmer, and they hate Outlander Dunmer."

Or maybe you can only join it after you are named Nerevarine, because that erases your "Outlander" status and makes you something much more agreeable?

Also, why weren't House Dres/House Indoril required to name the player Hortator for the main quest? Why was it only Hlaalu, Redoran and Telvanni? I'm not exactly brushed up on the lore in that, I just thought it was odd that there were two other houses, one of which had very close ties to Nerevar, and they were excluded from the Great House portion of the quest.

Because they weren't in the original game?
I think Bethesda was under a time constraing and couldn't add them in, so you had to go with what they had.

Dres isn't on the island, no, but they are still one of the Great Houses of that province, and are influential.

I'm thinking that if anything, AlphaFemale has it right. It doesn't make sense to have one of the Great Houses that was around in Nerevar's time not be a part of it, but timelines and budgets really shot down a lot of what they wanted.

It doesn't matter, because TR wouldn't change the quest to add the need to become Hortator of Indoril and Dres, but I was just curious if there was any lore to explain that small hole.

That is the most simple question ever...

If the Dres were in TR, and the player couldn't join, it would be lame.
And that's why the Dres would accept the player joining.

The player can join the Mages Guild and House Telvanni. Be the head of the Thieves and Fighters Guilds. Tribunal Temple and Imperial Cult. Whatever normal restrictions might exist, they do not apply to the player. You're special.
The end.

Wait, what if the player can't join House Dres, but could still work for them "on the side?"

"We don't like you, and we'll never let you become one of us, but we need you to put down a slave uprising, or capture some slaves, and we'll give you a set of Dres armour/cash/slaves of your own once you've finished all of our unofficial house business."

There is....the prophecy states "three halls call him Hortator". ;)

I just don't understand why only three of the five houses that were involved in the politics of Morrowind at the time (at least on the winning side of the politics) would be included. Sorry to derail this thread though.

Because there's only VF in the original game :) Otherwise it's stupid. And about horses and dragons... I think it should be the way it is now. Even if we have the lamest of excuses ever.

Originally Morrowind was to include the whole province but once they decided to make the whole thing by hand they realised that they didn't have the team or the time or the resources to do that so they cut it down to just Vvardenfell while keeping the other 2 Houses in their original territory - outside the playable area of the game. It was already well established lore that there are almost no dragons, only 2 are known of in the Empire and one died in the Battlespire incident. Further it was also already well established lore that no normal flora or fauna could live in Morrowind, the real question we should have been asking is why couldn't we ride the Dunmer equivalent of a horse 'A courier clatters by on the back of a 20-foot-tall, crab like creature' from the pocket guide. I couldn't care less about horses I just wanted a mount of some kind and guars are just too cute to ride, I just wanna disembowel them everytime I see their puppy-dog eyes and panting tongue... *mwaha*

Well since Dres is highly into slavery that rules out people who are slaves of any kind.

I think to attain membership into House Dres one must go through a quest to steal from the Census and Excise, papers that tell that you are in fact a native born.

How can everyone know that you are an outlander? they cant, so allowing the player to join is more realistic.

Not slavery, in-debted servent however. Perhaps you have a chances to become a servent to a Dres Noble, and you earn yourself his favor, and he eventually with his own contacts makes you a member of House Dres. Maybe later you get a chance to repay the favor to him.

There are at least a couple of examples in Biblical history where men went into a foreign country as slaves or prisoners and were so good at managment or prophesy or whatever that the less competant people who were rulers ended up trusting them with vast amounts of power over time. It would be interesting to see something like that. To have a series of quests where natural human instinct is to fight your captors but where the point of the quests is to serve well and end up being given more power. Of course because you are a slave or servant then you will be confronted with the inevitable people along the way who try to hold a brother down.

Well, I'm not sure if this could be scripted, but might it be possible to cause a script to run during the period the player would be a slave/sevant/whaterver that would drain their health should they fail to serve their master? If the player took too long they could find their character confronted with a script effect that drains their health by 1,000 instantly. Just an idea.

Well if you're really intent on getting into house dres, then the PC wouldn't have a problem doing odd jobs for a Dres noble, as an indentured servant... if they kill their master then they won't advance into house dres.. its as easy as that.. Its like actually having to WORK to get into a house.

Remember, House Dres is a Noble House. They aren't criminals. So saying they being impressed by you stealing some papers probably aren't going to make 'em squeal.
They are bad in the sense that they are slavers, anti-imperial-occupation, anti-outlander. That's their culture and traditions. They aren't the Commona Tong, and I'm pretty sure they don't hold to Telvanni motto of "if you don't like him, kill him!" (reffering to Councilers).
