Mesh Request: New piece - Common interior tileset

Post by Vegor »

I'm currently building an interior for Darconis and the new modular common/imperial set is used on the exterior of the city. The exterior has angled edges which are impossible to match on an interior. Here's the picture of the exterior:

To match this with the interior I need a new interior piece. One that is at an angle of 45 degrees with the rest of the tileset. It should be just like any common interior piece, so it shoudl have the two half pillars on either side and it should have the thin crossbar in the middle and the skirting-boards. Here's an image that should explain.

I would prefer one with a window in it as well; so two pieces - one with and one without windows. The windows should be like the one shown on the first picutre.

This mesh will not only help me, but everyone who will be making interiors in the future that have to match exteriors made with the modular set.

This should be easy to do without a new tileset. Use the corner piece as normal, but take the plain common wall piece, rotate it at 45 degrees, and place it in the corner. Use some column pieces to make it look natural.

There is an interior piece I made for that in the set.

Hush little stumpy, you'll draw undue attention.

Does everything have to be A forum? Why can't downloads be a page with categorized links all over it? Posts get lost. Sometimes forums can be less appropriate.

You can't just use in_c_wall_plain and angle it becaise it's at a 45 degrees angle, the wall piece needs to be longer. A diagonal wall that should cover the distance of twice a normal wall has to be longer than one of those normal walls. So you can't use the normal wall piece. Or I'd have to size it up which looks extremely shitty.

I found a way, though, by using two plain walls, a column in the center and two columns on either sides. This didn't look anywhere near as good as it should and on top of that it couldn't be fitted with a window.

Anyway, Greybeard already sent me a mesh so it's fixed.

I've spent some time trying to match the light with Bethesda's. You can be the judge if it's close enough.

The windows are the Bethesda ones on the CD that they never put into the game. They've technically been in OoT for a year and a half. But the corner needs to be approved before it goes in.

It still doesn't really fit. If 'A' (full lighting) is on in the editor it looks fine, but when it's disabled it's much brighter than the other pieces. I don't want to bother you too much with this, but they reall stick out from the other pieces now, even the floor is much brighter. I don't know how the lighting exactly works in Max, but there should be a way to get it shaded like the exisitng pieces.

Do this, it will work.
Take two plain wall pieces. Get them close to each other with gridsnap, and fill in the gap with a wooden pillar. Select all three pieces, and rotate it 45 degrees. Put a corner piece in the corner, and use the 3-piece wall you have just made to create the diagonal. Simple.
Observe the screenshot.

I already found that out before I posted this thread. It doesn't look all that good, the new piece looks a lot better. And more important, as I said before in this thread, there's a window in one of the angled parts and you can't fit a window on the center of that because the pillar is in the way.

I see the challenge. It has to do with the lighting settings in the interior. Here's what I saw with my settings.

And here's what happened (ingame) when I darkened the sunlight setting: (the darker center piece is Bethesda's.) So I'll try to find a close match across a range of brightness settings. And don't worry, Vegor. I don't mind puttering with my hobby. :D

OK! After playing around with this for a week, here's the result. Hope it meets with your approval.

Please wait until the core approves it before you start using it.

The wall is a bit lighter than the normal walls, but it's not that obvious. The floor is exactly the same as the Bethesda floor. I think it's ready for OoT.

I still haven't been able to turn in my interior because I was waiting for this piece to get added to OoT. Dumb enough, only now I notice the file is missing. I could use these in OoT ASAP because they're needed in the New Darconis interiors.

I've received several versions of the mesh but I'm faily sure this is the correct one. Also, two more meshes (window covers) are included which GB got from the TESCS CD and can be very useful for future common ints.
