Hmm.. it seems strange that everybody's HDD is dying...

If you don't want to finish it, just say it.

Only for such words I wish your HDD to die too so you'll see HOW it hurts you. Especially when ALL your work was stored on that HDD.

My brother's just died yesterday. Mine died some weeks ago but I was able to salvage the important data (as was my brother) since it wasn't a sudden death. And it really sucks when you have important data on it, for work, school or -of course- Tamriel Rebuilt.

My HDD has never died... and I don't know anyone has has expirienced it.

Yes, I could imagine how sad it would be, but I just thinks it's strange... an epidemic or something? ;)

maybe people should stop overclocking. If you run the computer, with proper cooling and dont overwork it, it should have no reason to die, unless its beyond 5 years old.

heh...I've got a 30gig harddrive, it's 6 years old, not overclocked, 2 fans, kept in a room that stays about 70 degrees fereinheit, and it works perfectly.

and yes harddrives can just 'die'. And slugz you should keep quiet about people and their harddrive problems and how it's obviously their fault. It's not. You don't really understand about it until it's happened to you.

I knew a guy who never turned his computer off for 1 year when it broke he wondered why. I turn mine off every night and it works like a charm. But my comp is 2 weeks old.

I leave mine on all the time, and I've had it since 1999. I've had one motherboard go on me, and upgraded the vid card twice, but other than that it's all the original components. Never had any problems with my HDD. I plan to upgrade the processer, motherboard, and memory soon, but I'm keeping the same HDD.
Claims completed:
Yashazmus, Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon
Mzankh, Dwemer Ruin
Nchazdrumn, Dwemer Ruin
Sirrilas, Shrine of Mephala
Moriken, Abandoned Dunmer Stronghold
Old Necrom Morag Tong GH
Darconis Diamond Mine
Assorted other boring claims.

you should turn your computer off if you plan to not use it for over 120 hours (5 days). Other than that, hybernating is fine. unless theres suspected storming in your area, then you should turn it off.

turning it off for 12-24 hours once a week gives it a chance to cool off and rest up a bit before you go back to using it 24/7
