Good work people

Post by attackdrone »

Upon my return to Tamriel Rebuilt, one thing more than anything else has caught my attention.

This thing is none other than the speed with which Morrowind is being completed, with regards to interiors and exteriors. I cannot name any specific names because there are simply too many people doing fast, quality work...

So good work people! Keep it up and Morrowind will be out sooner than you realize. A long time ago, under the old claims system, work progressed at a snail's pace. Now it speeds ahead ridiculously fast compared to before.

Keep up the good work.

Edit: I just realized that I have 6 gmail invitations. First six people to PM me and ask for a gmail account get one.

Attackdrone, you're one of the primary reasons why TR is progressing so fast. You did an entire city yourself! If it wasn't for people like you or SlugZ or Aaron or all the other modders, this project was doomed. I salute you restless ones. You're who make TR: Morrowind possible. We of the core are merely the organisers. :) And we thank you for your work.

you're a great bunch. Keep it up, and maybe we'll actually get this finished sooner than we have hoped for. Maybe we even get Skyrim done before TES4 comes out!

We have over a year until Bethesda's theoretical release date. But we all know that most games get postponed for 3-6 months. Thus I would estimate that we have a good 15-18 months before Oblivion is actually released. I believe that not only will Morrowind be done well before then, but Skyrim as well. They'll be out and people will be playing them. (We'll be playing them too).

at our current rate, I think morrowind will be done by the time we get to oblivion. My opinion is that we should switch to the oblivion CS once we get to skyrim, but that's not my decision in any way.

I've been roaming map 1 a lot doing error reporting... and i'm actually developing quite an apreciation for its uniqueness. At first I thought the wilderness areas were poorly done because they didn't look like Bethesda's work... but now i like it alot, although more sea statics would be nice. The towns are also very good looking. Only Bal Oyra needs a bit of a face lift. :D

Great work everyone. Especially to the person who made Aranyon Pass. Very unique. :)

I agree with Sirwootalot. Skyrim would seem like a good time to switch engine. (Just imagine how good Skyrim will look on the new engine :P)

Bal Oyra needs a facelift? Well, I think I can be more gentle than with Darconis there ... :)

(Half kidding ... I'll have a look at it and, if nescessary, add a bit of detail and such)

Anyway, SlugZ, I am not sure about the engine switch. I mean ... will the TES4 engine be as moddable as the MW engine? Will we be able to import any of our work? Surely not.

We shall see if an engine switch is plausible when TES4 comes out. Not a second before.

The engine will be even more user-friendly. Read the interview at GameSpy.

I disagree with the engine switch too. Even if it is slightly different than the TES3CS, it will make a lot of people confused. now people will have to buy a new game to continue working? What about all those people that waited months until they could finaly get their hands on morrowind? they will have to wait just as long to collect their money, many of them just will not buy it, and many will just wait months before its price is lowered. And considering its amazing gameplay and graphics, it will most probably be a lot more expensive then Morrowind when it first came out. Sorry, but are we gonna switch to the CS 5 engine when it comes in? And like i said before, it will also take time to get use to its CS because according to my third cousine who is a close friend of some one who works for Bethesda (and he is also a programmer), the CS is quite different then that of CS3. personnaly, it took me a long time before i could finaly learn how to make quests. it will still take a bit of time. the amount of delay is incredible. and when we start, TES5 will probably start coming out. "Ooops, we have to switch again". Sorry, but I am obliged to disagree.

Anyhow, lissen to attack drone. It would be cool to finish Morrowind before the summer starts. even if it will be a great challenge.

Although, it would be fu to start a new project just for TES4. like making another world. perhaps people havealready heard of the Cronicles of Narnia? that would be interesting.

Especially more so when we get shut down like MEMod for plagiarism.

really? they got shut down because of that? I heard it was because they were copying a lot of stuff already existing in the original Lord of the Rings games. And besides, there arent any games based on the Chronicles of Narnia.

Ah, Garriath, ever the sunshine, eh?

You know, if you want to slander TR, please move on to the Elder Scrolls Forum. TR basing is very big there. However, not on TR's Forums, okay?

Oh, and MEmod was living a lie, the lie being that Tolkien Estate had given Daerk very special permits to meddle with the world of JRR Tolkien without paying them an obscene amount of money. Bethesda is okay with what TR does, though, and unlike MEmod, we were told that directly by the company.

So stop spreading false rumors.

You really think it would take 4-6 years to learn the new editor? I don't know about you, but I think I could learn it in a week or two.

And I'm pretty sure everyone in this forum are buying that game... and if they don't have the money they will have.

You know one from Bethesda? Unfortunatly, this is the Internet so I don't believe you. Nor can I.

Did i say bethesda? sry! I did not mean that! The guy came from some sort of game magasine. and i think that i could learn the CS it fast too. But not every one is like you Slugz. I think its wrong to state that every one on the Forum will buy the game pronto. Because i personnaly know a member who wont. I have told people about Tr and they plan to join, and they said that they would probably not buy the game till it was less expensive. Slugz, I trust and respect your opinions, even if sometimes they are absolutely wrong (which i think this was the only one so far that I have seen)

I am sorry if this sounds like flaming, but stating something that false just seems really wrong. Many people will have trouble with the new CS. I did not say ALL, nor did i say the MAJORITY. but if we are going to change, we should have a vote before this.

I guess you're right.

But afterall, most of the people here are Elder Scrolls fans so I doubt they wouldn't buy it as fast as possible.

1340 people? There's only about 60 active members...

And; If the engine is as easy to use as Bethesda says it will, it will be no trouble.

We will see. :)

Maybe 70, but remember, all of these are active modders, at least ten of them are modelers ... it's not like TR is in as bad a state as the morons on the ESF always claim it is.

I'm on ES foruns and i din't have seen that many people complainnig about TR. To be true i've been a member since a year and never have seen a bad opinion about TR, on the other hand a lot of people are talking about it and recomend it when its done so...

And in my opinio "Morons" was a bad choice of words... we all belong to the same community and love the same game don't we... so lets not get to hard on each other.

I think you'll be surprised at how fast good quests will be added once the maps are done. Look at all Map 1 quests being thought up now. It's a real lot. And adding those to the game is nowhere near as much work as making exteriors or interiors. It just takes more testing, but we have the whole team to do that, so we should be able to find and fix errors fast.

I think all the interiors will take most time (think for example Narsis, Tear, Old Ebonheart, Almalexia and a lot more), although a lot of new members have recently signed up who really pace up the interior modding speed.

And there truly are some morons on the official forums. Just the other day, there was this guy that said about Tamriel Rebuilt "All they dun so far is make 1 piece of land that is complete dead (he was referring to the recent beta of Map 1) and that in two and half year and they wunt get anything done."

I always tell them to take a look at the Tamriel Rebuilt site and the forums and see for themselves how much work is already done but they're too stubborn (or perhaps stupid?) to do this. Morons doesn't seem too big of a word for those people.

ok ok point taken :D :D

By the way the work that is done is very good and only a blind person don't see it... I've been wondering on map1 and i'm amazed the way it looks it's IMO better then some places in Morrowind and that blue glowing town just amazing, and i loved the Pass (dont remember the name) but already has been mentioned, too... very original... Keep the good work! Better keep the amazing work :D

And about that morons maybe one day they bend over your feet in pray as a token of your work :D

what is this other project your all talking about? And quests dont take long to make. about five minutes a quest depending on what it is. A killing quests takes five, a fetching quest takes five, and well, an escort quest I do not know, never made one. but anything involving scripts will take longer.

EDIT: Sorry! Stupid Question! Take it back I say!

I joined recently, and have already seen some great new things done. A project like this has to be done bit by bit - no-one is paid to do this! I am busy at the moment, but when holidays come up, I will be spending more and more time doing various things for TR.

Now can I ask everyone not to turn this into another flaming thread? Let's set an example for the people at ESF and elsewhere and show that we can have a civilised discussion, give each other a pat on the back, and not argue over TES4 (which has its own thread) and how long TR is taking (it will be done when it is done, surely ).

I must say that though I think this mod is ambitious, IMO it is the best mod around. To pull it off will take time, but I am sure we can all agree that it will be well worth it!

Thanks go to the core and all the brilliant modders working on TR - respect!

Am I right when I say that this really ain't Tamriel rebuilt.. it's more like Morrowind rebuilt?

To get whole Tamriel rebuilt is IMO a bit too ambitious, but I like the idea.

Anyway; I'll do my best to speed up this project.

SlugZ, I have always believed that if you shoot for the stars, you'll at least reach the moon. The goal of the project is all of Tamriel. If we don't make it that far (and we probably won't), then at the very least we have, in our struggle to succeed, accomplished at least one province. While I, personally, would be satisfied if we just finished Morrowind, I can't imagine this project ending at that point.
Trudging through the relentless Skyrim snowstorms, the lone Paladin looks on in sorrow as the land of Tamriel evolves without him; his mind occupied with other matters.

In my opinion, as soon as we do finish Morrowind we're going to be innundated by new members wanting to help out. I won't be at all surprised if we finish Skyrim in less than half the time it takes to do Morrowind.
Claims completed:
Yashazmus, Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon
Mzankh, Dwemer Ruin
Nchazdrumn, Dwemer Ruin
Sirrilas, Shrine of Mephala
Moriken, Abandoned Dunmer Stronghold
Old Necrom Morag Tong GH
Darconis Diamond Mine
Assorted other boring claims.

I have to agree, ever since I joined (and before) the project has been going at an increasing speed. Once we get to Skyrim I think it'll keep going and we'll get it done faster than Morrowind.

Skyrim does have some factors that will make it take a good deal longer though.
First, Morrowind gave us the majority of the models needed. Sure, we had to create quite a few, but most of what we use in our claims (with the exception of cities that are almost completely new models, such as Tear and Necrom) is stock Bethesda stuff. We will have to create everything for Skyrim, except for the little that was supplied to us in Bloodmoon, from scratch.
Second, Morrowind has much more lore. We were better able to understand the province because of all the new lore that Bethesda released with the game. Skyrim still has a lot of mystery.
But I think that when we release Morrowind, both of these issues will be more than made up for with the massive influx of new members. I know it is going to be hilarious to see the reactions of the people on the ESF who chant "TR will never be finished" like some sort of sick mantra. And when we do release Morrowind, and the collective jaw of the Elder Scrolls community drops, everyone is going to want to get a piece of Skyrim, no matter what engine we are building it on.
And of course, the members that are now basically geared toward one specific thing (Stumpy with scripting, Eyeball with modeling, Hermit with cells) will be able to take time to learn to do the other things, so that we will have a group of modders who are able to basically take on anything they are assigned. Think of a group of Majras.
"Hail Dexter."
