A few weapon concepts

Post by Eyeball88 »

I saw these weapons in a different game (RYL) but thought that they could be modified and used in TR. They look vaguely Orcish/Daedric, and some of them are pretty cool. I don't know if any of these can be salvaged, but I thought I'd post them here anyway.

Risk Your Life. It was a lame, boring MMORPG but had some neat designs.

As cool as some of those look, I don't think we are allowed at all(by beth.) to use anything from other games.

I knew that we weren't allowed to 'copy' other intellectual property like this, which is why I was thinking that we could base our weapons on them, but not exactly copy.

Would it be acceptable for me to contact the development team and ask them if we could use their weapon designs in our mod? I don't know if there's someone else who officially asks on behalf of TR in cases like this. They have a contact on their website for Investor Relations, Public Relations and Career Opportunities.

The weapons I had were almost all from the Ak'Kan, so you can find more of them there.

If you just designed your own weapons loosely based off those concepts i'm sure it would be ok. Honestly, who would care or even recognise them? Its not like you're importing their models directly. Those weapons aren't even unique anyway, for somebody to specifically copyright.. maybe the texturing, but thats about it.

...They look vaguely Orcish/Daedric...
not just vaguley, they look exactly like daedric weapons made from orcish metal, and they look awesome. i really think these would make some good concept for weapons in orsinium.,

Exactly. ehen i downloaded a robe pack the other day, i thought 'heh, that looks alot like the fire robe in Gothic 2', i didnt say 'OMIGOD OMIGOD IM GONNA SUE THIS PERSON SOOOO STOLE GOTHIC MODELS OMG!!!!!!!!'. i doubt anyonw ill care if we base our models on another game's. plus, whose to prove we really did base it off of them. its not like we couldnt have come up with them on our own.

Devon, I might suggest you read the FAQ, more specifically the thread about discussing illegal actions on the forums. I imagine this will be locked shortly.

i highley doubt we could do that if wanted. i think what he is tryin to say is we could use the same shape, but add new textures, not taking the actual models and applying new textures. we'd still be DOING IT FROM SCRATCH... oops. capslock. hehe

Making models based on these designs is not illigal. So we can freely make 'em. Because they look damn good.

Last I checked, there is no law against using inspiration from other sources.
I think that some of these are pretty good. I would suggest that for now, we try to look past the textures, and simply look at them in terms of their shape. I can see that some of them will fit very nicely in Skyrim, and others in Orsinium.

By all means, Dex. That comment was made at Devon, who, it seemed to me, was suggesting we merely retexture them, which would indeed be illegal.

I didnt want to use their version, making something that looks like that with a new texture would be cool 8)
