NTFS vs FAT32

Post by Eraser »

Ok for you hardware gurus I have a question:

Would it affect my ability to play games and work on TR at all if my new HD was NTFS instead of FAT32?

No. Pretty sure it won't. I've always used NTFS and it works fine.

If you run Windows 2000 or XP, NTFS is the only way to go, both for security and performance. The only real major diff. between the two is file fragmentation levels.

And no, it won't affect your ability to work on TR in any practical way, unless you are the kind of person who uses his mouse as a footpedal.

If you have plenty of RAM (at least 128) there will be no impact.
If you have Win98 or earlier - you won't be able to see NTFS HDD.
If you want better XP perfomance I recommend to reformat all you drives into NTFS.

my old drive was FAT32, and it worked like crap. NTFS works better, or so ive heard, for XP, which is what i prefer.

Quite correct. If you plan to install XP and Windows '98 for some reason, you might need a FAT32 partition that can be recognized by '98. If you just install XP and want to play games compatible with that, you should experienced no problems at all. On the contrary, it should work better.
