I have a lot to thanks you for. I am really starting to appreciate it, and learn it now. Although, I am not as proud of my PS paintings as my actual ones, and i still feel like I'm cheating ( I feel, please take no offence), I am definately warming to it, and enjoy using it. I am better at it than the dude I posted in the current WSG. I realise what made him to shiny. I will post my Rihad idea, and you'll all see what I mean.

My name on CA.org is also LB003G0676

Don't worry man, you haven't offended me yet, it takes quite a bit to really make me mad. Your post in the WSG was really pretty good, it diffinatly shows that you know how lightly falls on the face I think.

Actually I thought the guy in the WSG was exactly right it wasn't too shiny it was good. Just a guy with a bit of a greasy face, which he should have 'cause he's a sailor and sailors don't wash a lot.

Hammerfell Legionnaire

Post by Artificer »

Excellent artwork, lb0030676. I'm most fond of one of your most recent entries, the one with the Hammerfell Legionnaire stading among the dead. I wonder, which time period is that set in? The original invasion by Tiber Septim's troops, or some more recent date?

Got my update.... for Haplo. Although it's not quite finished yet mate, gotta change a few things, I can name them, but once you see them, it just messes up the picture, so i won't tell you. I will change it around on Photoshop (as my scanner has been having a temporary lapse of cleverity - Haplo if you're reading this then please tell me if that's a word, my dear lit mod :P) because I changed it around on paper, but can't scan it on.

So here you go, rough version:

Here was an idea for the attacking teams armor, until I was informed they were disorganized raiders :P

And this still isn't the final version, but it's a pretty version:

And just some other crap from the flora thread, but ignore the flower for now, it's apparently not obvious where the hell it is

And finally from the flora thread another:

ANDDD!!! I will be able to show you my portrait if I take a photo of it! I am so proud, my first photorealist piece. My favourite subject.

I give up! What is the difference? Are the 'hand-maidens' alive or un-alive?

Aren't you doing any more vegetation?

Well we are the only ones who have posted our own work in it, in the last ten days. I've added fourteen concept plants since your last post.
Perhaps I should join CA as well.

Though I've seen this, I would like to publicly express my opinions on it, which are: Uber coolz LOL! Erhem. Quite excellent! And, I think it would do well as a light, deserty armour.

It does indeed 'pwn' but I think some sort of polished reptile shell would be cooler than bamboo which:

a) probably doesnt grow there
b) is pretty soft
c) splinters
d) is relatively hard to shape
e) doesnt look as cool as a good tortoiseshell :D

Nu-uh! Bamboo was an ingredient in Daggerfall I believe, a plant which would probabaly be suited more to growing near the jungle areas of Hammerfell, rather than High Rock.

The rest are fairly valid points... although I could have sworn hearing about a very tough species of bamboo. Definately hard to shape, it would either have to be broken down into many fibers, then somehow formed with adhesives, to get the look Pound concepted, or broken into stips and have them running either horizonally or vertically...

but I'm no expert on the matter :P

And being so fiberous is actually extremely hard. And to shape it like this would be easy as it is bamboo thickness squares.

But for you Jale, I can try a tortoise shell... I am just worried they'll end up lookign like this:

Compared to:

Which wins ;)

I wasnt saying like a whole shell, just like plates carved from a larger animal (assuming we have a shelly beast)

Yes Jle it does look a Tiny bit cooler... so I will do that, with a few reptile skins, I just need to be sure that we are actually having an ingame reptile... and to be bale to sue it's scales or shell :S

You are right, and the warrior has slats on his abdomen, and the tiles are literally the circles, (where the bamboo has been chopped horizontally, to form a circle and then had teh edges chopped off to form a square. Stilll I could be a number of woods.

EDIT

Just made it more obvious that the Brastplates were bits of bamboo, BTW the helm isn't bamboo. I dunno what it can be actually, i ahd planned it to bamboo, but for guards it's a bit nicely sanded bamboo for just guards.

Yep @ Sload. And there was a really really really big discussion about bamboo armor a while back. It was decided against, but that was with different people. Just a quick history lesson.

Nice design though. This one makes bamboo armor plausible :-P (The old design was laughable)

Bamboo is excellent for armour as long as the bamboo is combined with other materials. Both Samurai an Kendo Armour are made from bamboo.

@Jale: Turtle/Tortoise is what they make glasses and furniture and windows from. Though it doesn't splinter it's a lot softer than Bamboo.

@Haplo & Sload I am SURE you have heard this all before.

Of course because I meant actual real life turtles and tortoises and not just some other shelled creature, with tortoise shell just being an aesthetic parallel...

Heres the original thread: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=8124&start=0

Oh and turtle shells are made of bone or cartalige. Bonemold armor was also made of bone, so we know it is useful. Other bug shells, which could have the appearance of that lovely tortoise shell I posted would be classed as chitin, which we also know was useful.

Then of course you could also make armour from Morpho butterfly wings (the blue butteflies in Oblivion), as they are also made from chitin. The ultimate in light armour...

Finally got my portrait here, but since it's a photo the camera has lit up the graphite and where the board has bowed, the face is slightly distorted.

Man, we've got a strong CA presence but NO FUNCTIONAL STUFF! Pound, you managed to impress us, now I think it's high time you used your pencils to draw things that can be modelled asap. Vases, jars, plates, clutter generally. Or make details for weapon hilts and blades, ornaments and patterns, you're very good at detail.

If all CAs focus on such stuff, like Lute does, modellers will have some really good stuff to play with.

As you've certainly understood, now that you've proved your skill you're obliged to work hard! *mwaha* Mwahahaha...

I haven't got anough imagination to model things that people like.
But you're right, I will start doing that, I need to practise it. I have a lot on my plate at the moment though.

What do we really need. We still need clutter?

And just for the record, thanks, but I am NOT good at detail. :D

I think the problem is we don't have any concepts that need to be done now, and the more productive TR members either went sailing with Jack Sparrow, went to The Land That Time Forgot hunting T-rexes, or are wearing their mouse-arm tendons out in making Stirk.

Speaking for myself, I won't be doing much more plant concept designing, since I know that only one or two will be selected.

While many new concepts still have to be made, I'm not under the impression that the modellers have run out of material yet.

What I would like to do in a WSG is more Rourken/Kragen concepts and clutter. I know many ruin concepts have been posted, but doing the layout of the cities would be interesting, and I also think the Dwemer should have some sort of domestic serving robots running around in the ruins.

I've asked Pound to make an illustration with Kragen in it for a story I'm writing, and if it's only half as good as anything he's posted here, it's going to be great.

And I really do think TR should have an opinion on Dwemer womer having a beard or not. I'd also like to see a Dwemer womer concept.

Okay, the classic moans become boring and aren't convincing at all. Check my thread. How many of the concepts there do you think will ever be modelled? 1/20 is the most optimistic case. From Lute's? 1/15 perhaps. Also check Lady N's. She's concetrated her efforts into making clothes, and she's become excellent at that. How many of her concepts got modelled? Very little.

Except of the concepts made after a modeller's request, most are thrown in and sketched to provide inspiration, ideas, and some of them may be good and lore-friendly enough to be modelled. Did you draw something just to show off? Well, show off, that's good too.

After you read this post, check the new thread in the CA forum.

Thanks Harke, and I am sure I can get yours done soon. I don't know why I very suddenly felt guilty that I hadn't done any Functional. I really shouldn't. I have a lot on my plate at the moment, so I am sorry but I don't have time. And Harke is right there isn't anything to be conceptualised desperately anyway. And having taken into consideration:

"modellers will have some really good stuff to play with"

I have done some ;).

But I am pretty useless for functional anyway, so you're not missing out on much by not having my pictures :D.

I will have the ones I speak of up later, and I hope no-one minds.... but I will post up the much betered version of the hooded woman.

No one minds and no one's blaming you Pound, I'm sorry if it seemed like that. But do check the thread and get an idea of what we'll need. And not just you, I'd like everyone to check. And as I said, even if it's for showing off, that's good too. 8)
