your concept art is the key to it all! i rotated it and used it as specular AND bump maps, and i think the texture looks JUST LIKE CARVED WOOD!!! ahahah ok. im a little excited because this opens about a million new possibilities for wood architecture. anyway ill be applying the same process to the other two flutes, and they should be up soon.

well, Macar gets half credit for the concept art. all i had to do was use the same picture for a specular map and a bumpmap.
our concept artists could really go to town with wood carving designs. im talking pillars, tables, chairs, everything. its relatively simple making the rest of the tex look like wood. (or metal for that matter) i think we should get some nice concept drawings of blades with runes!

Looking pretty cool, can we have a few more shots from different angles? Just curious how it looks.
Out of curiosity, are you sticking to realistic polygon counts? It looks pretty high poly, but that might just be me.

its 1026 triangles. PoHa! wanted 700 but it was hard enough getting it to even look like a flute i found a loophole in the polys. i think i can cut quite a few.
the other two flutes are around 700. the polycounts are on the screenshot i previously posted.

ok, i re-textured the guard armor (sigh... again....)
but the important thing is that the UV map is all set up so i can add the city livery anywhere on the mesh. i finaly got a brass-like texture that i think will work well when its under a bright desert sun.

Hey, that's looking cool. It's not quite how I originaly imagined it, but it has a cool folk-art quality. I liked the first picture you posted with the carved shaft- rather than the smooth one.
One thing I want to point out is that (and you may not be getting to this yet) the reed itself (the part you put your mouth on) isnt made of wood- so it should look different. Here's a couple refferences:
