Quest idea: Adventures in advertising
A shop in a city has had some trouble getting customers. so when you walk in to buy an item (preferably food, and definitely not weaponry) he suggests that you could wear his special (item) suit for advertising purposes. The longer you wear it and your reputation could figure in to the reward. Also you could get extra money if you were to wear it all around the country side. (by now you should have a picture of a guy in a giant pie suit killing Dagoth Ur) I thought this quest would add some nice comic relief.

My original idea was not for an actual robe but a piece of clothing that looks like the item being sold in the shop. (such as a giant pie held up by suspenders.

What type of clothing would it be? Amulets don't show up. Besides that, a pie around your neck is a little to out of place.Thrignar Fraxix wrote:My original idea was not for an actual robe but a piece of clothing that looks like the item being sold in the shop. It would have to be grieves (or however the pants armor is spelled). I was thinking it would sort of look like clown pants, only the top looks like a pie top, and the pants stop a little above the knee, looking like the crust and bottom of the pie.

We could make it a bit more script-friendly in terms of the reward system. Instead of simply walking from place to place, why not go up to people and try to convince them to buy the product? Speechcraft could play a huge role here. You would have to convince people up to, say 75+ disposition in order for them to buy the product you are advertising. That way, a renowned hero such as the Nerevarine would have no problem, because who wouldn't want to eat the same pie as Nerevar (oooo, sexual connotations). At the same time, a new player, who has no reputation, cheap clothes, and bad persuasion skills will have a hard time getting the townsfolk to buy the product he is endorsing.
The reward could be commission on each person you convince, in addition to a reputation point every ten people or so.
I like this idea.

I might be able to do the model, though I have never physiqued a pie before! A pie suit would be hilarious, but are you sure a retextured robe would not suffice?

good point, and if it on a robe and not an actual item suit then we wouldn't be limited to only pies and items such as that.

maybe we could add in a script to make him expand his shop (wares and the actual building) and have him hire some help. We could even add a script that 300 days (or so) later you go back and find out that the East Empire company wants to buy his shop, and you have to help him decide. You could help him chhose whether to take the offer, ask for more, or just keep the store himself.

I'll be submitting the NPC for Bal Oyra's bakery later today. She is secretly a lesbian, but another NPC (also to be submitted) is spreading it around that "there's something fishy going on." Perhaps that could be worked into it?Thrignar Fraxix wrote:hm then maybe this should happen in some other pie shop.

the "fishy thing could be some rumors going around about the bakery's quality. (I could have sworn she didn't kill the scrib in my pie! etc.) and the person needs you to help them regain business.

There is. It's called Ilnori Pelelius's Bakehousepod. I know, crazy.Starcrunch wrote:Biggest problem with Bal Oyra is the overarching quets there, sometimes there is a bakery sometimes there is not (I don't think it exists if the player takes the Telvanni side, though to be sure PM Inferno_St1ke).

And Thrignar, the fishy thing is that they're lesbians. This isn't approved of in Tamriel, so it's just a little flavor I added.

They're secretive about it. At 70 disposition they'll hint at it, at 90 they'll hint at it blatently. A woman in town, however, thinks that they're lesbians and is gossiping about it. This could easily detract from their business.Thrignar Fraxix wrote:well some bigot (or a group) in town might be trying to drive them out of business

she might also be using other stories to divert some of their more tolerant business away.

I agree with this idea. I think customers appearing after player's PR campaign would be cool.Starcrunch wrote:Well bakeries aren't exactly common... I rather like the idea of putting scripts on the NPC's to only make them appear after the quest. Plus we could write some unique dialogue for them that would be priceless.

I just realized Vernon asked for a picture. This is basically what I was thinking. (Upon realizing a giant pie held up by suspenders would have collision problems)

maybe instead of a pie icon it could have some text. It could say something like eat at joes only in dunmeri (is that right?)

yes it does, I recognize that a pie on a robe would break lore, but i don't see how the dunmeri equivalent of eat at joe's could be a problem

it does not break lore because lore does not say "No one uses clothing as ads in Nirn"
It is a possible that one guy came up with the idea of ads of clothes, and that person is a baker...so this baker gets his friend the talyor to make a specail robe for his bakey, then the baker gives it to a free lancer adventure, and to take care of script problems just have it when you talk to people like "Oh what a odd robe, 'EAT AT JOES' you know i think i will"

maybe we could add a script that makes other store keepers say, "Now why didn't I think of that?" (I don't think this is possible)
Perhaps this hasn't been done before because it never occured to the citizenry. I don't know much about the history of fashion, but isn't the idea of logos on clothing relativly new? (in the real world)
