I got thinking the other day about how my hometown must seem so different to someone from a neighbouring town, and decided to do a thread.

Talk about your hometown, any peculiar traditions, what there is to do, etc.

My hometown is boring; full of overreactive, suicidal, borderline, emo teenagers. At the beginning of the school year, we commonly have Football games(the American kind). The town, Ocean Springs, is conviniently located between a large city to the east and a moderately large casino strip to the west. Most of the people here are doctors and rich people.

It's a pity...this town is so beautiful, but it's ruined by some of its inhabitants...

Southampton is located in the middle of the south coast of England. If you imagine Britain as a person sitting down...the West of Scotland is the face...Cornwall is the leg...the M1 is the spine...

Southampton is the Rectum. Its just north of the Island which can be described as the turd. I enjoy this analagy...it means we are defaecating on France.

Its an old city. Dates back to the Viking town of Hamwick. We have old medieval walls. Most are gone now but our main shopping district is built around the old entrance to the city...the Bargate. It was the city where the Mayflower and the Titanic sailed from. Romans even lived here at one point.

My school, King Edward VI, was founded by...you guessed it...King Edward VI. That was in 1553. I like my city because I feel connected to history. Its great going into the new shopping centre and walking past walls whch have stood for hundreds of years. Its great pointing out a shed next to a church which you know leds down to a bomb shelter. Its fantastic to remind Americans that you go to a school which is older than their country...Im such an elitist bastard.

Its a real shame its so boring.

I live in the moderately large (500,000 people) city of Colorado Springs, CO. The city is at the foot of the almighty Pike's Peak, is brushed up against the rocky mountains, and is directly between Denver and Pueblo, and all of the other towns and villages along that chain of road. Going from the Elitist Bastard's Analogy style, you could say that we are the streem of urine flowing down from Wyoming onto the southwestern quarter of the U.S.

Colorado Springs follows a pattern of most cities. Old Town (a.k.a. down town) is consistant of building that stretch 5-25 stories tall, buildings that are for the most part 25-75 years old. This area is well marked by the statue of General Palmer on his horse. This area is brushed up close to the mountains, and the adjoining city of (i forgot the first part) Springs, a small mountain alcove town inhabitted mostly by witch craft oriented people, lots of fortune telling. This is within the general vicinity of Garden of the Gods. Spreading out from this is a city that is generally 5-25 years old. The approximate area is 20*15 miles of small-town styled large city. I live on the east side of town, opposite of the mountains, in the Old Farm Community, near the Sky-Socks Stadium. My house is on the Bottom of a Neigborhood that is on top of a hill. There are three parks within this area, and an expanse of houses whose lawns are well forested. The general layout of the town is very spread out since it is built on hills, crags, small mountains, steps, and the foot of the Rockies. My school, Colorado Springs Christian School, is located approximately between Old town and my house, in the centeral 2*2 miles of the city. The school is an average 3A school, built on a slanted parking lot. Right Next Door, there is the Pulpit Rock Church, where my Boy Scout Troop 71 meets. My church located on the Northern side of town, on a field banking a river. To the North is the afamed (or infamed, whichever you prefer) Air Force Acadamy. Like most cities, it contains 2 large mega malls, but mostly strip malls otherwise, 3 tinseltown/cinemark theatres, as well as other company's theaters, five collages (Regis University (Catholic), Colorado Collage (Very Liberal), UCCS (Not Sure), Colorado Technical University (Doesn't Matter), and the A.F.A., as well as many of the smaller tech. Universities.

My school is the traditional private christian prep school, where everyone is preppy. If anyone is a "bad Kid", it's not because they actually have problems, but they just wish they did.

So, there you have, life within the city of Colorado Springs.

wow, where to begin...
St. paul is the capital and 2nd biggest city of Minnesota, and literally right next to the #1 biggest; minneapolis. They're usually referred to collectively as the "twin cities", and if you combine the populations, it's the 10th largest city in the country.
I've moved around quite a bit, but it's always been within a 2-mile area west of downtown. Oddly enough, the area of st. paul called the west side is actually the south side. it makes no sense at all, and neither do any of the streets. My parents are split up, so every week I switch houses - one is EXACTLY between both downtowns(and I mean exactly) and also directly between a super-rich and super-shady area, and the other is just across the river from the airport in a "bluecollar" neighborhood. The river itself is situated in a wide canyon of sorts; with about 100 yards between the shore and steep cliffs. Sadly, as anturally beautiful as the river area is, it's most notorious for being plagued with stoners and/or gay men of all shapes and sizes and places in the wee hours of the night. Thus, it's not suprising to awake at 3 AM because of random thundering car subwoofers from the park entrance two blocks away.
IT isn't exactly my hometown, but Minneapolis is a place I'll be just as often - it's WAY cooler than st. paul, with an exponentially higher number of record stores, clubs, and bars (but that wont be for another 5 years).
