Its cool. I really like the patterns on the blade. The hilt is also very cool looking. Good model!

I'll have many more, but do you think it could be used as a unique?

Edit: Thinking about calling it Iceblight.

Ah... very nice indeed! When I looked at it, I thought, "That's gotta be unique, or at least pretty rare. It won't work otherwise."

So, I second the notion of it being unique. Would be cool to have only a few of them in the game, or for them to be part of a set.. perhaps a set that the IAS would be interested in? Dunno... just throwing random ideas out there.

Thanks. Heres a retexture, basically the same, but in fiery tones. I like the icey one better, but thats just me.

Uhm... that link is (very cool-looking) concept art, not a retexture.
[Edit]Link was fixed[/Edit]

Aha! There it is! And just as glorious as the first one! I'm like you, though, and I just have a thing for Ice elementals in fantasy games, so, because of that and that alone, I like the first one more.

And, after looking at your first pic a second time over, I'd say that the hilt's texture needs a little work, IMO. (not the handle, but the X-looking part)

Yes, the texture need a bit more polishing to look more like actual materials. Don't look at me, I could only worsen them, though, so I suppose I should just shut up. :)

I like the shape of those blades, and I think both could be used as a unique pair of swords.

Two words:
über-cool.

But I agree that some retexturing could make them look even better. What program did you use btw?

Nice! There like opposite twin blades. The wire frame of the blade would look Dwemer....

Other than that I think the blades would fit nicly in a mission where the two end up fighting eachother.

I used 3ds max. Like I said, this is my first model, so I don't know much about everything in the program. Vernon has to give me some tips on the texturing bit. :P

Looks to me like they are more altmer than anything.

And I reckon that it should be a quest like find the champions who are supposed to fight with the swords and then when they are dead you collect the swords...possibly a later quest to forge them together.

I reckon we should incorporate that into a daedric shrine questline.

Who are we planning on having for Map 3?

Well, heres the link to the quest
http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?p=146953#146953

Alternate ending is you fight P1 and find that he was trying to stop the immortality too. Characters could be changed to Altmer too I guess.

You may need to brush up your texturing technique somewhat. How are you texturing these? UVW Map modifiers? Because weapons almost without exception need to be unwrapped. The exception is with weapons made up of primitives such as cylinders, boxes, cones and the like. You can contact me on AIM for help on this if you like.

:o *Opens mouth then closes it again.* Vernon, I'm new, take it easy on me! If I understood that i'd already be a good texturer

I actually have no idea on how i'm texturing those. I go to the little thing in the corner, and it brings up my textures. I load my texture and aply it, the I go to UV coordinates -> UVW map. There it gives me all the texture map types an I select one. Thats about as far as I've got...

I think I'm improving. I have texturing down a little better now. I made this shield and stuck a bronze/gold texture on it (Which I found in the Bronze Armor thread. Please post what you think, I need constructive critiscism!

Shields, Bronze.

Post by Silverwood »

I do have to say that the front is really good, but the texturing around the edges doesnt look really like wood, if thats what it is. Try making the ring around the center of the shield a bit darker, that way the inside stands out a bit more.
That'll look good.
As far as the texturing, i think you're doing a great job.

Yea, I don't know what happened to the texture on the rim of the shield, it was a different gold texture, but when I rendered the model it took all the detail out and left a solid color. Any idea's as to why or how I can fix it?

Here's a spear. I did this one from one of my own concepts (which you can find under "various weapons" in my concept art thread, just look for a similar spear.)Please post feedback so that I know how to improve this. Thanks.

W-A-A-A-Y too smooth and clean looking. Dirty it up a bit. Make it look like it's been used.

Um, is there a setting in the 3ds render window that allows you to change the smoothness of your render?

I think Stumpy was referrring to how bright they were more than anything else. Much as I like your work, if you're planning to kill somebody with a sword, it's not going to be bright blue. A very slight tinge of blue looks good, electric blue looks insane.

Hey, constructive criticism is good. But, I mean, the Ice blade of the Monarch was bright blue, I figured this could be a unique like that... I might go for a burnt steel look on it though.

Oh, and I just finished this as well, I really like it for some reason. It has a small history as a unique, and I decided to name it the Shield of Evven since the mysterious warrior Evven forged it out of an unknown alloy etc...
Anyway:

Edit: Oh yeah, how do you change the backround colour of a render? I want to make it white instead of black, because if I apply balck textures to the spear it'll blend in with the render to much.

Render -> Enviroment if I recall correctly.

EDIT: And not a bad spear, but the textures could be a bit more worn/dirty imo. Btw, is that a vegetable-store and a guy or something in that reflection thang on the shield, or is it just me?

I know the metal composing most of the shield is supposed to be an unknown alloy, but is the material within the circles supposed to be ebony? Whatever the case may be, it looks great.

The shield looks a little too good to me. To a point where it won't blend in with the other items.

The spear looks awesome, though as Stumpy said, it needs a little dirtying up.

The dhield does look a bit to big, the ebony-like pieces should be shrunk down a little bit. But the desighning and everything look fabulous.

Edit: The spears did show up the second time, the blue one I didn't like as much as the other, but I like the unique desighn to it.

Tell me you didn't do this. For how many time have you been modeling??? Is this textured, around the middle of the shield, or modeled? With a little more practice and the best tools, you could do incredible stuff. Could you send me your CV? I think I'll hire you, when I'll create my company.

The white parts of the texture aren't metallic enough.

Try something like finding a plain metal skin, paste on it the spear shaft skin as a new layer, and then toy with the transparency of that new layer until it looks metallic metalic with slight tinges of orange-red.

Save that, and use it as the new skin.
