How did you pick/made up your username?
Let's do something just for fun, it's holidays after all, right?
The point of this thread is for the posters to "confess" how did they pick up/made up their usernames and what special meaning do these usernames have for their users.
And no, I'll not be the first to confess!

I used to like the word Inferno when I was about 10 and just venturing online for the first time (after building my own PC when I was 9 ) and wanted to play some games over the MSN Gaming Zone network with some friends. I tried to register the name Inferno but someone had nicked it already. So I decided that a cool thing to add afterwards would be strike, as in 'Inferno Strike.' But then I found spaces were disallowed, so I looked at other names and saw that people were using underscores. I also liked the idea of using numbers to represent letters, so it became Inferno_str1ke. And that's the story. Last year when I started college and people began calling me Mike instead of my surname (as I had been known at my previous high-school) I decided to start writing it as M1ke, linking it moreso with my online name. I have since decided to call my website 1keNet, and you can find it for the moment at www.m1ke.tk

prety obvious isent it?
well, my 3rd morowing char (a nord assasin, as usual) was going to be named Nerevarine cause i thought it would be funy to have people say "nerevarine, you are the nerevarine" or something. but when i got to the character generation, i had forgoten how to spell "nerevarine". so i named her Nerevar instead. then, when she got far in the game, i started caling her Lady Indoril Nerevar because she was high in guilds nad stuff, and lady made it sound cooler so it eventualy stuck... when i joined TR after moving to baltimore, i made my username be Lady Nerevar cause the indoril would have ben to long. now its my username on all forums, although people mostly call me Lady N.

Macar just popped into my head. I derived it from the elvish (quenya) word for sword- macil. I made it up for TR, and it has become my online username for everything.

Heh, Silmarillion, as usual. When I was joining ESF. I loved the cunningness of Morgoth in the book, but I also wanted to add something Elder Scrollsey to the name, so I came up with Morgoth of Ebonheart, that being my favorite city. When I joined TR, I Shortened it to just Morgoth because I'm lazy. I don't use the name for everything unlike most people. I have numerous other names scattered across the web such as Bowhunter, Ironhelm, and Nirune.

Oh, and sorry for the double post, but where does the Quenya language originate from?Macar wrote:Macar just popped into my head. I derived it from the elvish (quenya) word for sword- macil. I made it up for TR, and it has become my online username for everything.

I've got mine from unit in C&C:Tiberian sun. There was this mutant guy with railgun named Hunter Stalker. I was playing Q2 back than and was pretty cool with railgun so I've taken Stalker part. Now I'm thinking of changing it to Steam Trout which is pretty obvious for IRC gang

hope thats not too geek for yaCouncil Of Elrond.com wrote: Quenya
Pronunciation: kwen'yaa
Quenya was the language of the Eldar of Valinor, presumably the closest language to that spoken in Cuiviénen by the first Quendi or Elves.
In the West, the Quenya of the Teleri on Tol Eressëa developed into a different dialect from that of the Noldor and Vanyar on the mainland of Aman.
In mortal lands, Quenya was spoken by the Noldorin exiles and underwent several minor changes. But its change was slowed when, as the language of Kinslayers, it was banned by Thingol, and Quenya became a language of lore, loved by the Noldor, the Edain who knew it, and the Ents, but not used in public.
It remained a language of lore among the Dúnedain, and in later ages its use was a sign of respect and friendship for the Eldar.
Quenya was a beautiful language, its liquid syllables suited to songs and poetry. It is also called the Ancient Speech, the Ancient Tongue, the High Speech of the West, Eldarin, High-elven, High Eldarin and Valinorean.

My tale is a simple one. You may or may not have noticed where the name actually came from. Basically I was about to start a new morrowind game and I thought, i want a proper morrowind-style name instead of something ordinary like my real name, so i was walking along looking at people's names and i came across the mages guild in Balmora and the guild guide, Masalinnie Merian, so basically I stole her name, only i spelt it wrong and i forgot the last name so i made one up. After that, i used it whenever i joined anything new, on the internet or whatever, which i had never really done before I became utterly obsessed with Morrowind.

Many many moons ago, I first tried my hands at literature with a story called "Ignoramia" (secluded empirical island of every drawn/designed character ever made). One of the many political strifes turned to battle was the war between insect/bug people and the Roleplay characters. A key leader of the commanding outposts was Major General Lutemoth, a level 42 Dark Elf bard (or drow, as D&D calls it).
After putting a hiatus on that, I began playing Daggerfall. The first character I made was Lutemoth

I thought that Massalinie was that ancient roman lady who had quite an appetite for...forbidden pleasures.
Dunno if that is how she is called in English but in my lingo it is Messalina (spelled Mess-al-in-ah, read each one separately, then altogether and you said the name), so I connected it immediately.
What a misunderstanding! As long as I live, I learn...

Ok guys- this is my short, rather uninteresting story... I wanted to be a nord character in morrowind, so as the over thinking person I am, set onto a quest to find a seemingly authentic name for a character of nordic descent. Having studied viking and irish legends and lore, I chose Rowan Tiernan, because it sounded authentic, and rather kick ass to boot ... as well as being a fan of Ireland and irish lore in general, Im super excited b/c im going to ireland in June! Gonna tour the continent, and visit the Guinness Factor!! YAY! (Sorry, that was my random tangent for the day.... i hope you enjoyed it ) Peace out,
~Rowan

My first major online game was StarWars Galaxies, and I needed to come up with a decent name for a Trandoshan (lizard person), so I basically searched a few StarWars encyclopedias on the net and found Orix, some minor Trandoshan thug in a novel who lived during the old republic and died, basically. I liked the name, so I decided to use it.
Little did I know its also the name of a huge Japanese firm as well... and there's someone else on the net who also likes to use the name since I've had trouble registering as a user name on larger networks.
For Morrowind and Galaxies, I extend the name to Orix Solariss, mainly because I was watching the movie Solaris at that time. Terrible movie, cool word though!

P.S. Please don't make handbags, wallets, belts or shoes out of Orix

well...my name came from a book I'm trying to write. One of the characters was just a background character, the personal guard of a lesser king. His King is slain and he fades into the background. After fleshing out his character a bit, I realized he wasn't very different from me. So I took that name on as my own, in a way. Everything I write, I write as Silvone E. Elestahr. Most places I go to on the internet I call myself Silvone. My girlfriend even calls me Silvi (short for Silvone, obviously). She only uses my real name when shes pissed off at me...
My own name is Adriaan, well thats dutch, so it would be Adrian in english. So i heard of the badass from Harry pooter and his name was Voldemort, i liked that so i combined the english version of my name with Voldemort, which turned out to be Vold(emort)(Ad)rian. Then i added the H because i thought it was cool

It all started when my brother and I were too old to share an AIM screen-name (I was 13, he was 15). I was just gonna be "Sam Woodman", but that sounded too much (exactly) like my actual name, so I made it Samwootman67. After a year, I decided that sounded too gay, and tried to come up with something suiting me. I liked the "woot" part of it (I had no idea woot was a phrase till sometime around me coming here a year later), and had just watched monty python and the holy grail, so Sirwootalot evolved - from sir lancelot, of course. The 123 at the end is because I tried registering about 7 different times when I first discovered TR, and I used AOL for email and it kept deleting confirmation messages. I'd have it shortened to just "Sirwootalot", but the 6 or so unactivated accounts are still there so I cant steal the name.

Of Balmora just to tie in morrowind.
Mr. sorry, I've never played windwaker, or any zelda game for that matter.
Another coincidence: My father told me that Macar means "sneaky" in arabic.

Boompiee is a a nickname my sister gave me based on my last name. I used to use the nick Lord Voraz a lot, which comes from the book Battlefield Earth by Ron L. Hubbard. But since that sounds a little too nooby now, I went with Boompiee.
wisdom is the horizon, and philosophy is the road that leads there.
When I came as an exchange student to Leeds to study theology nobody could really properly pronounce my true name. So my Chinese friends adviced me to pick a nick, as they usually do when they are annoyed by foreigners calling them "wax tadpole" instead of "soldier of fortune".
Theo was an obvious choice as I was there to study theology and moreover I like the name and Kojak series as well. So now I am known as Theo from Brazil to Japan
