Some samples of music

Post by Skogen »

Well I just wrote a post but the computer crashed when I hit the submit button. In anycase here is a sample of music I did before I started seriously started to study theory and harmony. That and before I got the Roland Juno-D, so I had to use the FLStudio samples, ugh. While I don't think that it would fit in TR, I do think it shows some merit.

I need to fix the harmony, though the idea came from playing improv on the piano so I couldn't remember exactly all the notes, hah!

I think TR needs more of a romantic era piece, IE sweeping and large.

The piece has some potential, but it's a little too thin. Also it's kind of repetative. I suppose you know that.

I'd like to hear something more recent (to see what studying theory has done for you :) )

Yeah I wasn't sure where to go with it. It was suppose to be a single phrase in a song but I gave up/forgot about it until recently.

It might be a little bit to here something recent. I need to get a mixer and/or compressor and a real sound card so the sounds don't clip. That and I need to get it so FLStudio will play different sound banks at the same time.

I like it. It reminds me of a situation that is not perhaps totally bad - but not too great either. This kind of thing would do well playing in the background when a group of people are facing a dilemma of somesort - in my humble opinion.

Starts off well, but I'm not entirely keen on the semi-quaver stop, makes it feel a bit awkward, and bit more instrumentation would be nice, too. It needs more variation, I think.

Very good start all in all.

Latest work. Finally using my new synth with a notation editor. I feel that it is pretty much completed except for some percussion. It is suppose to be/is an album intro so it is meant to be forshadowing/foreboding. I just need to stop mixing the sound levels with headphones now.

Edit: Started it last wednesday. Really sat down with it on Wednesday, Friday and Monday.

Great work. :) I'm not one to give quality feedback on music, since its not my specialty, so i can't offer any technical advice, but I liked it. It will work well as a gameplay peice, seeing as how I was working on my desktop and I totally forgot I was even listening to it. Your song blended right in. :)

Sounding better. Your instruments still leave something to be desired, however. As I said before, if you'd like to resample it, just PM me a midi.

As for the peice itself, I have a couple of suggestions. In the begining, the texture is a little too thin, IMO. I'd suggest sustained string chords under the broken one. Also, you may try slowing the tempo just a touch. I think at it's current speed, it kind of sounds Haloweenish.

It's good to see that your still here :)

I need to put effects on the instruments. Unfortunately my synth does not let me adjust effects for each synth patch I am using for my preform mode (16 different patches assigned to 16 different midi channels), only a global effect(s) that I can either turn on or off for each channel.

On more serious projects (ones that I would be actually composing specifically for TR) I wouldn't mind recording every instrument to seperate audio tracks and applying individual effects via Adobe Audition or whatnot. I've been looking into getting a softare synth so I wouldn't have to go through an external module for all of this, making it a lot easier.

Thanks for the feedback.
