Music from previous ES games

Eraser suggested to me that I try re-working some tunes from daggerfall or arena. here is the first attempt:

mmm, delicious, and very nostalgic *wipes a tear from his eye*

I can't remember in which scenario or weather this would have been used, but they hit the nail on the head, as did you two. It's mood is very distant and wonderous, much like catching glimpse of the glow of Rihad by boat at night. It makes one feel in the presence of something far grander than they can experience

Impressive! This outweighs the attempts of two other guys who've tried their hand at this. You can find Daggerfall music tracks on PlanetElderscrolls (ex-Morrowind Summit), one sounds too much like softened midi, and the other totally overdoes it and it sounds overly dramatic. Keep up the good work Macar! This is ace!

P.S. Are you going to release all your current completed tracks/works in a .rar or something? I tried to download them off Putfile but soon realised I couldn't :D. They'd also be ace in Oblivion (which you can just add tracks to without hassle now).

Here's another. This one only took me a few minutes.

As for my "complete works"; someday I may choose my best ones and talk to someone about including them in OoT. In the mean time, just PM me if there are any you want.

Is there a way for you to turn the DF3 file into a looping more ambient theme?.. something we could use as an easter egg of sorts in our mod?

Just listened to D16 (pizzicato), and again you strike a fine musical balance, one between the work of Zenogias and Karl Christmas who have also done their versions of the track, but didn't quite capture it like you have.

I suppose its a matter of subjectivity and preference, and maybe a little bias since I love all your stuff, but I think you're doing a great job and would absolutely love to see your entire interpretation of Daggerfall's soundtrack.

EDIT: The other tracks are all coming along well too! Very recognisable :). Just one tiny thing, could you point out which track on the Daggerfall soundtrack you are rejigging? Just so I can compare and comtrast to the original ;). Good job Macar!

EDIT: Aye Morden, DF3 would make ace explore music.

incredible macar, just the sound I was hoping for. The dungeon and flute songs are infinitely better than the numerous versions people have made. Sorry I couldn't provide a midi file to help though.

Thanks for the complements everyone. I'm currious to hear the other re-dos now... As for making DF3 into ambient music; I think that would spoil the character, but I may try it eventualy.

I'm not shure what the track numbers are, but you can compare them with the download I got here: http://www.uesp.net/dagger/files/dagfiles.shtml (near the bottom)

Well, I dont want to harm your creative process in any way by showing these to you, but if you want t have a look, here's the files on Planet Elderscrolls:

Zenogias:

Karl Christmas:

Here are all the Daggerfall MIDIs. It has a doubles of some tracks (with an "FM" in the title, not sure what this means). HOpe this helps :).

Good stuff!

Barbarians doesn't seem to work for me, however.

The only small gripe I have is with time-57, its done really great, but on a concentrated listen I heard sudden shifts in either volume or tone in the background tune of it (such as in the 10th second), it doesn't quite have the smooth transition the original track had.

Apart from that they're great :).

I was experamenting with a new way of doing that. I think it failed. If we ever decide to include any of this music I will have to re-mix it anyway- so I'll fix it if it comes to that.

I think pretty nice. Not sure how many were from Daggerfall though, i think i reconized 2? 1 is sure at least. Need to recheck.

Personally i loved music in Daggerfall back when it came out. It had couple weaker tracks too, but the best were great even when midi or whatever. Dungeon musics at best were creepy and outlands music had great feeling.

I'd love to hear some remade Daggerfall music (never played Arena so dunno bout that) to add athmosphere and deja vu moments in good meaning, for the Hammerfell mod :) Really music in Morrowind and Oblivion is more.. i dont know how to describe english but its more "flat", no as much changes as Daggerfall, variation!

To other thing, thats not really music related. But the land you're making for TESIV:OB. Right now its Hammerfell only right? Theres other projects but as i understood the rest lands is for TESIII:Morrowind? Theres this Silgrad Tower team making various lands around Cyrodiil (no Hammerfell). I think Morrowind, Vvardenfell, Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Valenwood, Skyrim. I kinda hope that whatever you 2 teams do are different regions, no 2 times the same, and so that both teams mods work together same time. That'd be awesome. I dont think theyre touching the western areas really. Cant remember whats in there without map Hammerfell, Daggerfall.. hmm. Anyway good luck with the mod :)

Actually i believe Silgrad Tower is just one of the teams, but theres several other teams under same forum. So every of teams makes their own land addon but they are in same forums and have some organization so all these lands would run same time in game.

In case youvent heard heres their forum also, might be interesting check out.
http://www.silgrad.com/wbb2/board.php?boardid=59&sid=3aa2887c3b55a08203b15b78998fea7c

Ill keep following both Silgrad forums and yours now since both look very promising to me :)

EDIT: Editing? Allright. Thats cool. Hmm hehe Yes Daggerall indeed has great music. Orix, did you try long getting out the dungeon? Funny thing i played Dagger alot when it came out. Had long break cause i couldnt get it work with newer computers. Just recently before TESIV release i got it work with dosbox. While so many years break i still found out my way from first dungeon with first try! Its tattooed to my mind i guess :D And no i didnt mean you should do things like other team, thats not what i meant. I find it great theres different team making each land, it will definetely create own athmosphere to all of them and thats brilliant! What i ment was.. it would be great seeing them all run similarly without any problems ;)

Thanks for your answers Orix :)

I hope you decide to release this music for use of in-game music Macar, you've done a gret job so far. Daggerfall has an awesome and nostalgic soundtrack to many, and while I never made it out the first dungeon in the game, I've listened to the OST many times. How many of the tracks do you think you'll produce, out of interest?

gravedigger84, all the tracks Macar has released are from Daggerfall, if you dont believe us, check the download which contains the midi music from the game. And while its NOT the place to discuss it (try the FAQ :P) we're making Morrowind mainland for TES 3: Morrowind, and Hammerfell Province for TES 4: Oblivion. We're not affiliated with Silgrad Tower's projects, I believe we aim to do things the way we like, not within the constraints of what they do, it would be an undue restriction of our creativity in my opinion :).

To clarify, ST and TR grew out of the same group. Differences of opinion caused strife that led to the division. But I'd like to think we get along quite well now. But our projects are unafiliated.

Guys, don't spam up the forum please.

As regards using music from previous games, I think the music counts as the intellectual property of BethSoft, so we may not be able to use it, alas.

Yeah, having a discussion with Stalker about it over IRC (get yourself on there, Macar =) ), I've got some issues about simply remixing old music when we've got the talent in TR to make new music that is just as good. I'm going to mull it over (you can do your best to convince me why we should include it) before I make a policy on it.

Well, I'm not dyeing to have the music ingame (I never played the originals so theyre not nostalgic to me :) ). I just think it would be nice to put 2 or 3 three in the mix- for fun. Either way, I'll keep working on my own stuff. These tracks take me about 5-10 minutes each to remix, so I can do as many or as few as people want.

As for IRC, my college's crazy internet blocks it :(

if you can re-do the music this well, maybe you could redo the oblivion intro for a more Hammerfell-ish feel.

If you want, i can give you the intro... I already know the intro in sheet music, if that'll help you start off

I dont see any need to do the music from oblivion over again. It's so good as is. Though redoing "the reign of the septims" in hammerfell style is a neat idea.
