Oblivion Problems & Solutions
Okay, this thread is dedicated to hard problems one could meet while playing the game and can be anything, from getting stuck in a difficult situation, a puzzle, or encountering an annoying bug. Hardware problems such as 'omg hdr kills my fps, why?' are to be discussed in another existing thread in the Lounge.
Here go the first questions by me:
1) Completed the Bruma Countess's quest, got her the Madstone and received the ring she gives. So far so good. After completing the 'through a nightmare, darkly' quest with Henantier's dreamworld I try to re-equip the ring and I get a message saying 'you can't equip this enchanted item right now' and in an attempt to drop it and pick it up again I get a 'you can't drop quest items' message.
2) These will'o the wisp thingies, are they supposed to be unbeatable? (I'm lvl 10)
3) Is it necessary that one joins the Mythic Dawn and slays the Argonian hostage to steal the Mysterious Xarxes? It's kinda against my principles...

Will'o the Wisps are difficult for me, being level 20ish. However, this could be a result of bad equipment, or the fact that I only try shooting it with arrows or allow my summonings to take it on. (My Blade and Blunt suck, btw). Part of the problem is hitting them when they disappear (they make a great effect when they disappear and are coming at you on the surface of the water though).
I have, however, killed a few. So they aren't invincible. Just kinda tough... for me, at least.
As for the other two, I have no idea. The problem with the dreamworld sounds like a scripting bug of some kind, though.

1) No clue
2)The are quite hard indeed. I believe magic or enchanted weapons are more effective then physical damage, but im not sure. my level 29 orc warrior doest have any problem killing 2 -3 of them at a time now.
3) Ehm no, being an orc warrior and all im not that subtle. I just bashed my way in there and took the mysterium xarxes. (I freed the argonian slave).

Re: Oblivion Problems & Solutions
The first is a known bug.. I don't know what you can do at this point, short of changing the ring in the TES:CS or waiting for a patch.
The second, Will'o'wisps are incredibly weak to lightning. I saw one kill 3 Imperial Legion Guards at once, then took it down with 3 hits from a staff of lightning bolt. You'll find the same with Dread Zombies later, without any fire damage they'll regenerate their health almost as fast as you damage them.
And three, no, it's not necessary. I tried it a number of different ways, but the end result is that no matter what you do in that room to get the book, you'll make a lot of enemies. I never ever managed to do it from the inside (ie agree to give up your stuff and go in) but other people who just started killing from the beginning managed to free him; he says he is from the Temple of the One.

(WARNING, SPOILERS)
Q: ZOMG IM A FREAKING VAMPIRE LOLZ,
edit:i decided to replace my text with a well placed picture

A: ok so you're a vampire and you dont feel like adapting to it and earning a whole bunch of sweet abilities, well there is a cure. the real way to discover it is to speak to the first contact in the dark brotherhood (vincent something) and he will direct you to some mages guild dude, who will direct you to some guy named janus hassildor who is the count of skingrad.
im not sure if you can skip any of these steps (like go to the mages guild guy before the dark bro. guy.
ok so to talk to janus you need to go to skingrad castle and speak with the argonian woman in there and ask about the cure for vampirism and she will bring out janus, who will direct you to some old lady by a river.
well now ur at this old lady's house and guess what, shes a complete bitch and wants you to get 5 EMPTY grand soul gems. now the only way i know how to do this is to steal from the mages guild but im sure you can find some in some alyied (sp?) ruins or something ok so you take them back to her and she sends you on some quest, do it and eventually you will get 2 cure thingys (one for you, one for janus's wife) so you take it back to janus and his wife is dead ( i think this happens, but i havent done it myself, this is just from lookin at quest logs in the CS :p) so now you get 2 cures.
YAY YOU'RE NOT A VAMPIRE ANYMORE!!!!:D

I've had no problems with will'o'wisps. I used Debaser or that cold-damage sword you get from the Killing Fields quest to attack them and they die soon enough. Unenchanted weapons do them no harm, though.
My brother suffered from a bug at the Bruma (IIRC) mages guild recommandation. After stealing that book from Jeanne, the "prank" topic disappeared.

Yup, I got infected twice in a row, but the cure disease spell is handy.
Vampirism seems interestingly implemented: the longer you stay without feeding, the more powerful your vampire powers grow -- and the harshest your vampire weakness becomes. Feeding regularly allows you to stay outside in the sun without damages and to appear normal to other peoples, not feeding at all give you greater stat boosts and more powers but you lose something like 10 hp/second while in daylight, and people won't want to talk to you.

I think thats quite clever. The Porphyric Haemophillia thing is loosly based on real world diseases (loosly like how the Empire is based on Rome...) and people who do suffer from something like Porphyria do become more 'icky' if their haemoglobin levels are not kept up - necrosis of the skin, damage from sunlight...even the garlic thing affects some people. If they keep topped up (though drugs or the old fashioned way) they stay normal enough.Gez wrote:Yup, I got infected twice in a row, but the cure disease spell is handy.

There was even an episode of CSI about it

Just a sidenote: Porphyric Hemophilia=Crimson Bloodlust.
And a question. That italian vamp, Valtieri, gives you a quest called Darkness Eternal. Now, I have this obsession to complete any quests in my journal so I accepted that he turns me into a vamp. So now I've been a vamp for an in-game week. But the quest is still not completed. What should I do? Get the the Cure Vampirism quest?

Not quite:El Scumbago wrote:Just a sidenote: Porphyric Hemophilia=Crimson Bloodlust.
Porphyria: A disease quite like leprosy which if untreated causes the sufferer much distress, including a horrendous amount of damage from sunlight. The treatement is injection of things present in blood, and the drinking of blood could be seen as treatment. Also, not eating causes attacks
Haemophilia: Essentially, as you said, bloodlust. Real Haemophilia is just a disease where you can't clot.
