I think we should keep the default MW voices for evey NPC except for ones that have a special function. Like prom's dunmer who welcomes you to river bridge.

The tricky part is to remember that if you have custom voices, every response for that NPC has to be in the same voice. We can't go mixes bethesda and TR voices on an NPC.. that would be silly.

Hmmm. I don't think there should only be default voices. I can well imagine the guards at ST, or an imperial knight in a border fort, or a rebel fighting imperials, should have the same, few standard sentences to say. And frankly, even though the three VF house guards say they are 'officers of imperial law', house Indoril and Dres guards *aren't* abiding to imperial law andthus *shouldn't* have the same standard stuff to say.

We want Tamriel to be colourful, not full of repetitions of things we already know. New voices just add colour, variety and - if done correctly - keep the spirit and the feel of Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

I don't understand what your trying to say hermit... Are you suggesting we create cutsom voices for every faction that is not covered in the Morrowind game and its Expansions?

The purpose of my above post was that we should not go overboard by only using our custom voices for certain NPCs, and using the voices that came with the game for the other NPCs in Morrowind. I wasn't suggesting we break lore for the sake of not having to record voices.

If we need to create custom voices for Dres and Indoril guards then so be it... but unless we get some high quality microphones and audio equipment, everywhere people go in Dres and Indoril territory they will be confronted with our crappy recordings, which don't even stand up to the professional ones, and will sound out of place.

As for Dres and Indoril guards, you could even just delete from their response list, all the sound files that connect them to imperial law.

Is it at all possible to contact the original voice people from Morrowind and ask them to help? Or would they demand payment or something? :P

If they're professionals, I'd guess they would want to be payed ... after all, they do this for a living.

It would be different if the voices hadn't been done by professional voice actors, but by the programmers at Bethesda themselves ... they just might help us out.

If I could find a working mic I'd try some voice acting, I could probably do a good dunmer.

LOL I just heard mordens recordings, he sounds like sean connery :)) Very good, I've also listened to all the others and I think the biggest problem with all of them is having a touch of the accent of where we are from in the voices.

Final exams are over... i'm gonna start working on my Nord voice pack again. Its sort of an experiment to see if you make voices of an acceptable quality with extremely basic equipment.

Basic = $10 Microphone and a copy of Goldwave

I have mentioned this quite a few times in the past but Audiogodz could give us the voice talents we need. Some of the voice actors do sometimes provide freebies in the hopes of being noticed. :D

Morden! That was an awesome nord voice!!!! PERFECT! I'm going to record some stuff of my own. Maybe Imperial voice samples.

<edit> This voice acting isn't going over too well for me :P. Therefore, I decided to use my normal voice to vent my frustration at my voiceacting skills. This attached file is my voice insulting my voice acting "abilities". Even my normal speaking voice sounds like that of an elf :P.

... goblins...

Post by Mindbasher »

Maybe you could also give Goblins voices, peaceful Goblins, who sing songs like the ones in The Hobbit...
Just make a goblin camp of peaceful goblins (well... they're still evil, but just peaceful (or drunk) )...

Would be really cool if they had voices too...

Here's a song: “Clap! Snap! The black crack!
Grip, grab! Pinch, nab!
And down down to Goblin-town
You go, my lad!

Clash, crash! Crush, smash!
Hammer and tongs! Knocker and gongs!
Pound, pound, far underground!
Ho, ho! My lad!

Swish, smack! Whip, crack!
Batter and beat! Yammer and bleat!
Work, work! Nor dare to shirk,
While Goblins Quaff, and Goblins laugh,
Round and round far underground
Below, my lad!â€Â￾

Windows should have the basic recording software in it somewhere... hell.. Windows 3.1 came with a basic sound recording program.

Ok... found it. heheh

Go to your start menu and look under "Entertainment", and click on "Sound Recorder".

Then if you have a mic you're all set to start recording. I personally use Goldwave to record my voice. You can download a trial version that will do all you need... i use the full version though.

Sound recordings are usually created in .wav format. I went on the internet and found a .wav to .mp3 converter... and the mp3's are the final products... they're much easier to upload.

Does morrowind read mp3's for voices? Or do they have to be in .wav format if you place them on an NPC?

Well, I think I can do Bosmer ok. I'll see how I do recording. I want the male voices to be deeper and more manly, yet still have that dull, lump-in-the-throat tone.

Hey, um, call me a newb or whatever you want to call me, but I need some help with a simple computer task. When you download a file, and the extraction screen doesn't come right up, how do you find where the file is?

Here is a couple files from my Nord Male voicepack. I'm still regarding it as a test of what somebody can do with the most basic of tools.

Considering i'm not a voice actor, and i'm using a $10 mic and a basic audio program i think its going alright.

Please let me know what you think of it so far, and if, with refinement, it could be used at some point in TR. I have many more recordings and sayings that haven't been filtered, cropped, converted, and otherwise enhanced, but thought i'd post what i have now... i also have many more completed phrases but i didn't want to post too big of a file.

Any suggestions?

I happen to know an aspiring voice actor, whom also knows other such people. He's very good, might be able to talk to him. Though depending on his college workload he may not be able to do much. I'll have to talk to him.
