New design on Water-dreughs

First of, I don't know if dreughs should be in hammerfell or not, but I think there should be more aquatic creatures, especially in a plase such as hammerfell where (I hope) there will be a lot of quests off shore.
The old design on water dreughs; http://tes.ag.ru/mw/artwork/creatures/cr_dreugh.jpg
This creature does not quite fit to the new design of the land dreugh:

therefore (if we make it) I think it should have a design more equal to the design it had in the old games: http://til.gamingsource.net/gallery/dagger_shot12.jpg

I like it. However, there is a slight problem that I see with it. This is actually not so much a problem with your proposed design, but with the original Dreugh from Morrowind. The top portion of the body is like a crustacean, heavily plated with an exoskeleton. The tentacles, however, are still your typical octopus tentacles (granted, a bit thicker).
This creates a contradiction of sorts in my eyes, since one half of the Dreugh is armored like a tank, and the other is soft and squishy.
What I propose is that if we do remake the water Dreugh (and I hope we do), that we attach some exoskeleton plates to the backs of the tentacles, to lend them that armored look and tie the creature together.

I think that was a good idea. Perhaps if an artist have some free time could try to design those tentacles, cause I can barely draw.

The theory is that the land dreugh is the "adolescent" form of the Dreugh, while the aquatic one is the adult form.

From what we have in the games, it would seem that Dreughs are less and less beast-like with each mutation. Their child form is unknown, but it's probably more crablike or lobsterlike than the land dreughs.
Here's the Daggerfall Dreugh:

As you can see, he looks even more humanlike than morrowind's for the face and torso (no chitinous plates, only two arms), and more tentacled otherwise (six segmented tentacles in the back, eight squishy tentacles for propulsion). This makes me believe the Daggerfall Dreugh is at an even more mature stade, less crablike, more humanoid and more squidlike.

Actually, I was under the impression the devs had said or someone else had made up that the dreugh occasionally went through a process in which they walked on land for a while and then returned to the sea later.

Yep. I seem to recall one of the books in Morrowind referencing that, that young dreugh walk on land for a while before returning to the sea.
Ah, I found the book on TIL:

3 Sun's Dawn, 2920 wrote: For one year of their life, they undergo karvinasim when they walk upon the land. Following that, they return to the water and meff, or devour the skin and organs they needed for land-dwelling. Then they vomit it up into little balls like this. Grom. Dreugh vomit."

This book would imply that:
1. Before karvinasim, the Dreughs do have the organs needed for land-dwelling.
2. After karvinasim, they don't have them anymore.
3. A anakarvin Dreugh will not look like a katakarvin one.
From Oblivion, we see the land dreugh are very crablike. From Daggerfall and Morrowind, we see water dreugh are not that crab like. Therefore, it makes sense that their amphibian parts, needed for land-dwelling, are crablike.
And also, that the uncrabby water dreughs, being devoid of these crablike parts, are adult.
So, we've not seen the youngs yet. (Unless they're mudcrabs, but that would be silly.)
