Experienced Modeler pics inside

Post by Mdogger »

Hey guys
Iv been modeling creatures/characters for some time now, and I feel Im quite experienced and have something to give.
Some examples of my highrez work, I have experience modeling low poly too.

Im looking for a strong and ACTIVE mod that will not fall through. Iv joined so many mods, where I make a bunch of models.. but the mod just dies.
Id also like to mention, I model in XSI, and tbh I have no experience in actually getting the models ingame. All the mods Iv done work for have always handled that for me as long as I give them the obj file.
I like the look of this mod, and Im wondering if you'd take me on? and If I was to join, what sort of models would you have me do.

WWWhOOOOAAAAAAAAA     Dude, that's friggin' amazing! I can't speak for any moderators, but geez! I'm pretty sure you'll be very welcome here. And I also think that someone else can handle putting models in game.

As for the stability of this mod, I'm feeling good about it. I joined a few months ago, but, as far as I can tell, it's been going on for a few years, and hasn't shown any sign of falling through yet. To actually help (in case you don't know) you need to be promoted to TR Modder, but with modeling ski1z0rz like that, I'm sure you will be. Anyway, welcome, and happy modeling!

hey! Glad to see yah here. I'll just go and echo Neenja's comment: "WWWhOOOOAAAAAAAAA". You’re work is amazing! Could we perhaps see some slighter lower poly(OB type) models? And have the poly count on these here beauties?

As for modeling, you can do anything. Our main focus will of course be on Architecture and similar items to begin with, but everything else -- armor, creatures, flora, weapons, waffles -- is also available. It all depends on what you want to do (though we do have priorities and standards round here)

and yes, this mod is very stable.

Welcome to the forums :) Its always nice to see another modeller drop by. I use XSI as well.. i love it. ;) Your highpoly model looks great, though as LadyN mentioned, it would be excellent to see some of your low poly work.

Do you have a particular interest in Oblivion modding? Or have you tried other game engines? Since your using XSI is it safe to assume you've tried joining a number of HL2 mods? :P I mention that because it's the only other mod community i've encountered that mainly uses XSI.

As for the stability of the project.. well, I can vouch for it. Check out the date under my avatar. I started modding here in 2003, and we're still going very strong, especially with the release of TES4. This longevity can't be confused with stagnation either, as we're always evolving. Much of the stability can be attributed to how we function as a community. We are a semi-closed community, but we accept proven/dedicated modders, and this allows for a cetain amount of succession. When somebody leaves, there is another to step up and take their place. ;) Myself for example.. I started a few years ago being rather clueless, and now i'm an Admin with a variety of modding skills.

Our webhosting is also provided free of charge by Garfield a former memeber who has graciously allowed to use his servers over the last few years. So there has been no hassles with domains expiring or payments missed.

As a modeller you may be interested to know that we have an active Concept Art section. I would strongly recommend that you browse through Lutemoth's concept art thread. (he is one of our CA moderators. Take some time a look at his work. The first page contains some of his early work at TR, but you'd do best to browse through the other pages to see his more developed ideas. For armor, pages 8-11 are your best bet if I remember correctly though there are peices scattered throughout. His ideas and styles have become the basis for our design of Yokudan culture... the more traditional people of Hammerfell.

El Scumbago is our other CA mod, and he has put a great amount of effort into designing three full architecture sets for Hammerfell.. these are ready to be modelled, but have not yet been posted on the public forums.

wow thanks guys :) , btw sorry if im coming off as really arrogant here with the thread title and such.
I used to use Lightwave, but moved over to XSI and it totaly rocks! I've been involved in a couple HL2 mods but they all went down stinker fairly quick :(
You can check out this mod which Im sort of still part of, but the core members have left and its kinda totaly dead now
http://dinoinstinct.hl2files.com/mediashots/sp_index.php?dir=./models/Renders
I did everything there except the raptor.
heres a random low poly sasquatch type monster I did for oblivion

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/7926/junvarteextur1qa0.jpg
(not finished)
the big bat model once comeplted came to 22k raw polies (thats right, I modeled out by hand 22k :O)
you can see a WIP thread over here to
http://www.subdivisionmodeling.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1430

Thats pretty much it, I can sorta animate.. but its very hit n miss so I dont really bother much.
Cheers!

Edit: Oh yea I thought Id also mention, Im not really too familiar with the elderscrolls series. I pretty much just bought oblivion like many others because it was "THE" game to have. This mod will be made available for TESIV right?

Yes, we are doing TES4 and your meshes would do quite niceley for this mod. Oh, and we're not going anywhere, we've been around for 5 years, and we will be around for 5 more. PM Eyeball88, he is the head of meshes for the mod and will be able to help you get involved to whatever extent you wish to be involved.

Actually 4 years I think....but yeah, we're not going away anytime soon.

What to model? Creatures, we haven't had anyone up to the job of creatures since one of our old time modelers, Vorheis left about 2 years ago. And you look quite able ;)

Blender and Max are where modeling is at for Oblivion, but they import practically all the same formats, so someone with either can handle the character rigging.

Welcome, Mdogger. Love your meshes, and yes, you do look very able. Glad to have another modeller around. (And especially one of your apparent caliber.) Admittedly Max is usually the way to go with Oblivion modelling, but I'm sure we can get those formats converted and into the game as well. Before you model anything, be sure to PM Eyeball88, he's heading our 3d departement, and if you decide you like it here, you'll probably coordinating with him quite a bit. He'll be able to tell you what's ready for modelling and what quite isn't. Although, if you want to have a go at modelling some of our concept art or something for fun, go right ahead. I hope you enjoy it around here. We've been here forever, so don't worry about the mod falling apart. And thanks for the interest!

Hey there Mdogger, that is some amazing work. More importantly, you can do low-poly and you look to have a strong grasp on texturing. I think texture artists are less common

I don't have any experience with XSI, though I know it is one of the industry standards. The community as a whole is still struggling within the limits of Oblivions .nif file system, but I'll gladly give you a hand converting your work from .obj to .nif when we can.

The focus right now for modelling is architecture and plants/rocks/grasses, so if you're interested in any of that, there is concept art that can be found, or I can send you in the right direction to find things like buildings, etc.

Feel free to PM me at any time, I usually get the PMs as soon as I'm available.

You sir, are promoted.
Eyeball, our meshing captain, is extremely busy with getting OoT organized at the moment. However, if you send him a PM telling him that you are ready to being contributing your skills to OoT, he will respond and tell you what you can do to start helping out. Just give him some patience with response time. If you have any general TR questions, I will be happy to answer them, and I might be able to answer your OoT and meshing questions as well, so long as they aren't technical questions about meshing programs themselves.

Yes. Actually, we have two mods going on, one for TES 3 and one for TES 4. All new models will go to the TES 4 mod, though, as the TES 3 one has been delayed long enough as it is.
