Isn't Max a shit.....?

Post by angelus6 »

Right, I've been working on some architectural models in 3D Max 8 with the NifProps tool for collision etc.

then suddenly, it decides it only wants to export one lot of collision data per .nif file. Not for any real reason, apparentally it does this 'just for fun'. It's not just that i don't know what im doing because i have made a few custom meshes before, it's just tonight it doesn't fancy exporting the collision properly.

.. as i was writing this, it flipped 117 verts... out of the blue for NO GOOD REASON. (and stopped asigning texture properties) **lmao**

anyway, just a rant on Max really.

:)

Like a famous PC nerd said once (I can't remember his name though), computers are non-deterministic stuff (spelling?), meaning that they will not work the same way twice, even under the exact same conditions. That said, it's not max you should blame. The chaos theory perhaps...

Thought it was quantum mechanics.

Abramul is right. So he must have been talking about Quantum Computers.

Quantum or no Quantum, I know this: Open up your freshly-formatted computer. Install nothing, do nothing. Switch it off. After a while, switch it on again. Nothing's changed, even the room temperature's the same. Yet, you always have a chance of coming across a "blue screen". This is statistically confirmed, which means that your computer doesn't have to be Quantum or Ion, or I don't know what else to do that. Comps are the most stupid things man has ever created.

P.S. 3Ds Max + Quantum Mechanics=Max Plank? Is this equation somehow revelant to what Abramul wrote about QM?

the niftools exporter only supports one set of collision data AFAIK. Gundalf had multiple collisions fixed I think, but he went AWOL and they had to rework alot of things.

ah, the point i was making was that before last night everything worked fine but now niftools works no more.

this was more a rant than a reasonable discussion. lol

Another computer geek once said, "It's not so much working with computers, as it is trying to trick them into doing what you want." Which is a rule of thumb with graphics programs.
