That concept art site is pretty nifty.

Haven't I seen something like this posted on this forum not too long ago? http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=60396&stc=1&d=1164984733

They all look very hammerfellish to me but I think a lot of these are concepts for the new game nightfall. Still, a source of inspiration.

Aye, Pound drew something like that, I was going to ask... I'm sure he found that and drew inspiration from it. It's very similar.

I really think we should ask this guy if we can use some of his concepts; especially that last suit of armour.

Aren't those concepts from another game in development? Using them as inspiration - yeah - but taking them and making them - that wouldn't be cool...though they do look bloody good! :))

I'm really exited about Hammerfell now that i have ES4!! :D Looking forward to finishing more of it so that i can start modding it....Akatosh bless the CS! ;):)

actually it's concept art inspired by that. Moving to CA since it is concept art.

God damn those Nightfall pieces are exquisite. After I saw those, I went to look at some screenshots of Nightfall, and a lot of it is absolutely perfect for the setting we are trying to achieve.

We just need a way to bastardize everything we see here in such a way that it doesn't obviously look stolen. Hah! ;)

I like a lot of the complicated tailoring, the additional shrouds, straps and complications. Some, particularily the last armour, look a bit too egyptian (morrowind was more egypt than anyone, IMO). Nevertheless, I'm bookmarking this thread for inspiration :D

I agree, Hammerfell to me, draw mroe from Mayan, and Aztec deisgn, or atleast those influences are obvious to me, when looking at some of your stuff. And the obvious persian, and slight Egyptian and even east Asian influences.

Maya Inca or Aztec architecture and influence in Hammerfell? No way

If I was to pinpoint the different Elder Scrolls cultures and draw the connections to real-life cultures, I would say that the more Egyptian/Babylonian influence would be found in Elsweyr, as the image in the PBE is a scene similar to the lush wetlands found around the Nile river. I would say that the Mayan/Aztec architecture would most likely be found in the mountainous jungles of Black Marsh. However, this is just a "in my mind's eye" sort of speculation, as we all have different ideas on the cultural inspirations for each province should be.

I think, however, that it is impossible to really say "This province is this real-world culture." What Elder Scrolls is, and what our project strives to be, is a fantasy world where the most beautiful cultural aspects of the real world meet the imaginations of a fictional world.

When our art department sits down and looks at Hammerfell, our thought process is a mix of "How can I fit the beautiful, delicate arabian curved architecture in with strong, solid structures, to illustrate the stubborn and warlike part of Hammerfell society" and "How can I work in the influences of arabian clothing, with soft silks, veils and other artistic shrouds, yet still be strong and proud. How can I make a set of armor that doesn't just intimidate the opponent by being large and dark like a gothic bulldozer, but is culturally rich and showy, with vibrant colours instead of black on gold" and, most importantly, "How can I inconspicuously steal the real-world clothing and architecture, from ancient Africa or the Legend of Sinbad, or even Guild Wars: Nightfall."

I guess the point of this is, if I was explaining TR: Hammerfell to an outsider with no real idea of what any of this meant, I would probably sum it up as "arabic." When you look at the project in the progress stages, you will see sprinklings of Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Africa. When you can view it as a whole, when every piece of architecture is modelled and in place, when the cities are alive with markets and mosques and statues, it will be greater than the sum of its influences; it will be Hammerfell.

The concept artwork of clothes that I am seeing after browsing through the Nightfall CA archive are probably the closest examples of what I hope Hammerfell can be. There is exceptional vision in some of the pieces that I only hope this project can match. Don't be ashamed to study all of this carefully, or to open google and type in "Morocco Architecture," because it is impossible in art to escape outside influences.

I think I meant in design, I didn't mean in architecture. But there is always hints of it occasionally in archietcture. as Eyeball said, you can't escape from a little outside influence.

mind you, having played GWNF, the main problem with it was that all this stuff was sectioned off. I, as a person fairly knowleged in history and geography, could walk around and pinpoint the culture mirrored by every area.

basiclay, im saying that you need to take insperation from real world, not to say "Morocco Arch = Lower Class Crown Arch"

but im hoping yall know that :P should i fix yall up with screens from GW?

If you wish, but add 'em to a gallery at photobucket or something and link it herez. Too many images on one page will just lag it down. (Remember Liliath's Screenshot thread, anyone?)

Also take a look at the models. They are at the bottom of the page. That's what I think is high quality work. The face counts are a bit big though. Great find.

actualy, the polycount in GW is very reasonable. especialy for an MMO. we can go quite a bit heigher in OB.

yall might alos want too look at CA for GW Factions. though mostly asian it has some nice stuff as well.

There's a forum there for non-profit recruiting. (CA.org) Chances are you might not get the best of the artists to join from it, as they want payment, but there's sure to be some who are interested. If this has never been done, I strongly reccomend that one of the Admins post a thread there, explaining TR, Hammerfell, and providing some of our work. Might turn out well.
