Could well be, according to the above article, Zenimax has registered "Skyrim" as a trademark, including 4 separate entries for a video game, downloadable content, apparel and some hand held/wireless/telecommunications entry [which according to Xui'Al, KOTN and Shivering Isles also had].
I checked it out myself, looks pretty convincing, especially since fans picked up on the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions way before they were released in the same way.
Looks like me made a good choice by going for Hammerfell

Yes, I believe that was put under the Elderscrolls Travels trademark however, and was set only within Dawnstar as far as I know, rather than the entire province of Skyrim.

Well, even if the variation is small, the mountains and such could look interesting, if Beth doesn't screw it up.

Now that I think about it...
Daggerfall had a lot to do with Hammerfell..
Redguard dropped storylines in Morrowind, inlcuding Dram..
Morrowind had the heaviest influence of Imperial settlements..
Oblivion took much atmospherics of the lofty mountains on the Skyrim border..
Maybe I'm just daydreaming too much..

Good point Gez!
Although Oblivion so far gives news about troubles in many provinces, but mostly Morrowind, Summerset Isle and Black Marsh I've noticed... with a little about the Nords fighting Redoran with Orcs in a border dispute and trying to retake Solstheim. I find the choice for Skyrim over Black Marsh and Summerset Isle quite surprising.
Its almost as if they're taking an easy way out rather than trying somewhere more adventurous... The way I see it, they're making a small jump from mediaeval to nordic, rather than the more alien options that are open to them. Nevertheless, they'll probably make them more interesting than I make out.
They could include parts of Orsinium, and maybe Morrowind...
Maybe... Redguard did instroduce many Dwemer aspects used in Morrowind. And Morrowind was always going on about how the was trouble in the Imperial Capital and so forth, and why Caius had to leave etc. Bloodmoon pretty much made it clear ES4 would be in Cyrodil with the prophecy of Oddfrid-Whitelips.Lutemoth wrote:Now that I think about it...

I'm worried: Skyrim has the potential to be cool- but it also has enormous potential to be veery generic.

Its easier to connect and makes more sense without Redguard, which wasn't a real TES game anyway, but its all bogus in the end.Lutemoth wrote:Now that I think about it...

it seems Beth is more interested in promotional values than gameplay: and i bet the OB team had nothing to do with that (lets hear it for marketing moguls). even if they put Directx-X into the TES V engine, it's still going to get boring reall fast if they cut as many corners as they did in OB.Lutemoth wrote: My hoping is that they do Skyrim right. Zod knows how Oblivion could be redeemed in the lore department. No worries on the graphical imput of course,
besides. it could all be some Diablo III huff anyway.

Or from Daggerfall? It had region-based music + weather-based music. You wouldn't get the same music swimming by night under the falling snow in the Iliac Bay as you would walking on a sunny day in the streets of Sentinel.wishmaster wrote:I hope they add Region-based music this time. Im' so tired of hearing the same music for every town and forest.
Steal some ideas from Zelda, please?
Weather-and-region-based music is what I miss the most in Morrowind and Oblivion. Music was much more atmospheric in Daggerfall.

That's another one with disaster potential. I can just imagine the bosmer becoming generic "wood elves" living in pretty tree houses and frolicing all day...

I was kind of hoping they'd go back and do Cyrodiil right.

Done right it could be awesome.... Becuase what we saw in OB was hardly jungle... inafct it just wasn't really Cyrodiil.

And if our vision is anything to go by, Daggerfall isn't really Hammerfell, heheh. I suppose aesthetic and conceptual richness (not just in the aesthetic, but the attitude and ideology) of a province seems everything since Morrowind. Daggerfall didn't manage to express these things visually, but definitely via storyline and lore. Cyrodiil lacked it in most aspects, but I suppose with a helluva lot of modding by fans, that could be changed, I just doubt that anyone would bother.lb003g0676 wrote:Haplo wrote:I was kind of hoping they'd go back and do Cyrodiil right.

I think seeing Cyrodiil with the kinda crazy concepts that Morrowind had come to life we be something to see. Part of me wants to see wild Ayleids as they're metaphorically represented in books like Topal the Pilot, and the villages squashed onto the bridges of an Imperial City that is bigger than Vivec...
Maybe one day.

I liked the towns in Cyrodiil.
Didn't much care for the terrain, seeing as it looked horrible in the distance. I liked the Jerall mountains region, though.
And the Heartlands. Fun place.
I'm still looking for the Ayleid ruin on the back of the Oblivion box. Does anyone know where it is?
I think the Summerset Isles would be pretty interesting, as well. It needs that eerie, unexpected feel that Morrowind had, though. Oblivion was just to in your face for me.

Ignore the extra d, please.
I have a feeling that Summerset won't come for a while. I suspect that the high elves know a lot of things that the rest of Tamriel doesn't, and Beth is probably going to hold off on that information and release it little by little in other games before giving us Summerset.
I would love to see Elsweyr, myself.

Imagine my insult to find that "Raw Glass has no effect on you." I became very huffy at the implication that my intelligence could not be lowered further. Then again, I did just eat a piece of glass.
I'd love to see Black Marsh done in the same style as Morrowind. Could really recapture the "clueless outsider in a strange land" vibe of Morrowind. (Sentient trees, werecrocodiles, etc)

I think that it will likely be set in Summerset Isle, this being my reasoning:
In Morrowind, I remember often hearing rumors and such about trouble in the Imperial City or with the Emperor (the Talos Cult in the Imperial legion quest, for example)
In Oblivion, I have heard discussions/rumors of problems with the Altmer of Summerset Isle involving radical magicks and activism. I figure that Bethesda may continue the trend that I believe may exist.
Although you also hear rumors about the Nords of Skyrim taking Solstheim and being otherwise violent.
My point could be taken either way, and I suppose I could be making up ideas here as well.
