A little help please : (

Before I start: I am not sure where to put this. So if it is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.

I'm new to texturing, and I have a problem.
You know when you open a dds file? You know how it shows every part of the item in separate spaces? Well if I want to texture a custom item, how do I know where each part will go?
If there is a tutorial, can I PLEASE have the link?

are you talking about UVW mapping? (thats what your texture looks like)

if so you'll need to apply different coordinates for every edge/face/verticy/etc, or the entire element. then you just position the map in the right place.

i'd look on 3dtotal.com for a good UVW tutorial:

best texturing and UV programs are 3dsMAX and MAYA

we have 2 or three MAYA users and a few MAX users (me included)
