the_cosmonaut's showcase

Post by the_cosmonaut »

Hi, I'm new to modding, but I'd like to contribute to Tamriel Rebuilt. As a showcase, I'm uploading a small velothi style house I made following Dragonsong's tutorials. It's placed outside Ranyon-Ruhn (Tel Aranyon cell) and it's supposed to be the house of a Daedra worshipper, or at least the place where they used to live before moving to some forgotten cave.

The interior review only (no exterior or NPC):

1) Interior is clean.
2) Interior is the right shape, but Beth often uses larger int for this exterior mesh.
3) North marker is set, but incorrectly.
4) Loading errors. No.
5) Many items are correctly placed and F-ed, but need extra attention to detail. Some surfaces, like the
shelves, are crooked and the items on them need to be rotated to rest on them correctly. The paper sheets
need to be F-ed until it bleeds and then moved 0.1 up the Z-axis.
No Lore issues, but there is r and p furniture mixing.(desks).
Light settings applied correctly.
You know how to set ownership and lock.
You also need to sink the sacks into the floor, and the floating sacks on the shelves into the shelves and
eachother it looks more natural that way.
Some bowls have tapered bottoms. Sink those into the surface up to the rim.

6) Your interior skills are getting there. You do need to bring the details up to the next level.

Further remarks/questions:

- The exterior is somewhat spare (8 references for one cell...should be at least 100).
Should the textures have shown up in TESAME in a clean file?
- Does the NPC have unique topics?

I tried to load this up but for some reason the cell itself wouldn't load. I can say these things though:
There is no custom dialog
The person added 8 refs to the cell, this is fine since the cell was already detailed (assuming it looked good, I couldn't see)
Textures are supposed to show up in the exterior file since they were used. (I assume)

If you don't know about exteriors or NPCs and say you aren't going to review them, then don't review them Harke. (and make sure you load all the master files)

Ok, I've tried to correct what you said:
- I've corrected the position of the objects on the shelves/desk and the papers (everithing I've seen floating)
- I've changed the r chest for a p ones
- I've sunk the bowls and the sacks
- I've corrected the Northmarker

The NPC was placed just to have someone to assing ownership and test pathgriding. There is no custom dialog.

I don't know if the textures souldh be in a clean save either, but they appeared when I applied vertex shading (perhaps I did it wrong?). If I delete those references, all texturing arround the house disaappears, though.

interior review (not the exterior or the NPC or the PGRD)

I've checked the changes you made in the interior. You fixed most of what I mentioned correctly. I'm not mentioning what you corrected, as the review would become too long.

Floating:

misc_de_bowl_white_01 and misc_uni_pillow_01 still float somewhat, but you've improved on the placing of items on the shelves. (you could rotate the bowl like you did the other clutter and sink the pillow into the bed).
furn_de_p_table_01 has two legs in the air because it stands on the rug with the other two. 9/10 times it's not good when that happens. common_shirt_06 also floats on one side (although it would be difficult for your PC to see it).
I see why sc_paper plain underneath the sweet pulp is as high above the shelf as it is. If you turn it a bit you can place it more accurately(lower). de_p_chest_02_aryne02 floats. (that happens if you use Search & Replace).

Bleeders:

Most of the stuff on the desk downstairs bleeds somewhat because furn_de_p_bookshelf_01 is somewhat crooked.
More serious is the bleeding of hard furniture and containers into the rounded edges of the floor.

Tip: You could sink the sacks (and pillow) a little more than you did already.

I've attempted to fix all the things you've mentioned on the last post.

I'm not sure that all the bleeders are correct, but at least the furniture shouldn't bleed into the floor now. I'm not convinced about the bed, though, I think the space I left for it is a bit small.

I've followed your advice on the sacks and the pillow, but I'm not sure if they are better now, so feel free to tell me to move them again

The way you fixed the table is incorrect. You should either place the table completely on the carpet, or not at all. We can't have legs or things bleed through carpet.

furn_de_screen_guar_01 bleeds into the ground.

de_p_chest_02_aryne02 should be locked.

Just some things you missed this time around.

New version: fixed what Haplo said.

I placed the key for the chest on the desk downstairs, it also opens the small ingredients chest. If this was a real mod, I would probably place the key on the NPC or at least hide it somewhere, though.

I will look at your file one last time. For reasons discussed in this sticky I'd like you to make a new interior (if that's what you want to be promoted for), no NPCs or creatures.

P.S.: I don't do promotions, just reviews, so it's quite possible you get promoted for interiors at any given point after this.

Pick anything you want. You could even pick one piece interiors, because you´ve shown us you can use gridsnap already.

If you want to practive for when you get promoted, you could make us something Redoran.

For extra kudos download the latest TR_Data and show us you can use that. It´s full off neato stuff.

Ok, new interior: this time a redoran hut for a smith

I did use some items from the last TR data, but most of them are just clutter

EDIT: I forgot: the cell is called "Redoran hut"

the only error i noticed is the upper class bed in an otherwise lower class interior. other then that it was error free, well detailed, and reflected its purpose well.

Promoted for Interiors.

PS. harke, we don't generally require people to do that anymore.

Great! Now to claim something!

I have one question though: the bed you mention is a de_pr. I thought it was ok to use _pr in both _p and _r interiors. When should I use them?

_pr is middle class. we have our own middle class furniture set though, honestly, that bed doesnt go too well with it either. the bed looks OK in a p interior but it seems really cheap for r.
