Hey, I need to work, teach me how.

Post by Rivin »

Hey, I'm Rivin, you can all call me Don Storms though. I will admit, I am new to everything I've done in the past few weeks, I started up Morrowind again, I joined the Bethesda Studios Forums which was my first online community, I started studying to become a lore buff, and I started using and experimenting with mods.

Enough with my biography, I have a list of pros and cons I'll share so you can get to know me. I'll give bad first. You will notice I am a living paradox.
I'm lazy, I'm new, I have never opened the construction set before, I just recently learned how to post, I am a bit crazy and have to censor myself and my silly profanities around others, Idon't care for "Order" much. And I'm a McGreggor.
And my bright side,
I'm dedicated and reliable, I never quit on a passion, I love all forms of art, I am an extremely fast learner, I'm creative as hell, as are all crazies. I want to mod and write quests which I know I'd excell at if I had the knowledge. I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't want to help.
I just need help starting.

There are lots of excellent tutorials on the web, including lots in the TR tutorial section linked by Bero. This forum even has some hints, tips, and tutorials link from its stickies.

Once you feel confident enough, make a basic interior/exterior/quest and post it up here. We'll check it over and suggest any improvements/corrections. Interior modding is a common place to start - a lot of people make a small house.

Thanks guys I'll get right on that. Thankyou for links and pointers, I'm sure that a house or a cave as practice would be good. Then move on to an actual project.

Hey I need some help, life has been rough and I've been a little behind but I'm doing my best to learn as fast as possible. I have some things I need before I start.

I already have...
* 7zip & UltraZip
* ReOrderMods ++
* TESTool

I'm pretty sure these programs are not enough, can someone give me some links to some more usefull tools?

You'll need Nifskope and TESAME. Check the utilities on the main page.

You'll want to get TESDTK in case you need to either:

- remove dependencies on files you don't have for files you need to work on
- change an .esp to an .esm
- update a version number

You'll want to get Wrye Mash, if you don't already, because it can do anything you can think of with mods and saved games.

You'll want to read GhanBuriGhan's Scripting for Dummies, and you'll want to read a tutorial or two on NPCs/Dialogue, as Quest creation involves lots of Dialogue, NPC, and Scripting work.

Most of this stuff (if not all) can be downloaded on our Utilities section of the web site.

Feel free to post what you have done when you do it. We'll go through everything and help you get better, too. :)

Welcome to TR, and feel free to write something if you wish! :D

Than you know what it's like, sometimes life sucks, I've been expermenting with mods, teaching myself about the console, learning the basics, It's all simple just... requires effort. Now I gotta research making Mods. I'm too busy with my other issues in life to fully dedicate myself to this. But I do it in all my free time.

Hell, I was drinking with my friend and stopped to research some Lore. So I'm getting there, at my own pase.

BTW, you're a Mcgreggor? A Scottish Sheep Thief?

Okay, I've been out of link for a bit. I'm gonna take some good time, to learn more about scripting and... generally the entire CS. Thankyou for all your help and don't lose faith in me if you don't hear from me in a while.

Just checking in, I thought it would be nice if you guys didn't think I've ditched you. The progress of knowledge and realizing how much there really is to learn about the game is coming slow, but I'll get there eventually. Once you guys have me on board we'll rip up the place. ;)

Has been even more months, sorry for the double and probably uneccessary post but, hey, I haven't forgotten you guys. And believe me I do plan on helping out, right now work is all over me, I think when I get a new computer and can finalize my modded Morrowind is when I can help and be realistic with you guys.

I got most of this stuff down now though, I've picked up a lot in the past half year, I think a quick runthrough with scripting for dummies and I'll be ready to help you guys out then.

Until then, goodluck, and thankyou for all the hard work you have already done.
