What Is Vertex Shading?
what is vertex shading? People say you need it for claims but i dont know what is is.thanks
There is a blue/green button at the top called 'Land Scape Editing' the same window you use to raise and smooth land. At the bottom there is a toggle botton that says 'Edit Colors.' Toggle this button. There are two windows of color also at the bottom. The left box is for left mouse click and the right one is for right mouse click. Go to your land in the 'Render Window' and left click and drag, you have just vertex shaded. The color I use is 136:118:96 (R:G:B).
Here are the instances you should vertex shade:
-to seperate and differentiate textures
-under all statics to give them a shadow
-at the edge of water and land
Look at Vvardenfell for examples.
Edit: NEVER USE VERTEX SHADING WITH A EDIT RADIUS OF 1 (ONE)!!! It looks aweful, always use a 2 (two) and above. Size two is preferable.

it's the lower half of landscape dialog window. basicaly it's a colour that you choose and paint over textures. like when a wall meets groud that is the place where it should go [a grey col.]. this way it blends better and it looks like a real shade.
edit: noirgrim was faster, so forget this post
