Jorak's showcase!

Post by Jorak »

Hi, first of all I want to introduce my self: I'm Robin and I'm 16. I'm german so don't mind if some of my expressions sound oddly. Second I wanna say that I know what you ment in the showcase 'to all writters', in which you said that there are too many who don't take the "write-work" serious. It's no critic at all. I meant that the most( not all!!) think writting such stories is the easiest way to get involved in this amazing project at the lowest working effort. But true writters know that it isn't that easy to create a really good story. Enough of that. Now how do I intend to help you? I'll too want to be a writer. I want to do some quests( writting them) and write journals and books. My first project which I start with is the journal of the assassin who killed Potentate( the first Vampire serpent king). But here I have a question. Where do I put that Stories in?

Hm, I don't mean to sound like an ass, but are you sure writing books is such a good idea? You're English isn't as good as it could be, well not good enough to actually write stories in English anyway. However, it IS good for a non-native speaker. You should hear my Spanish :P

Anyway, I suggest you learn how to use the Construction Set and design interiors or exteriors if you want to get involved.

And again, don't think I'm trying to insult you. Your English is very good, but just not good enough to write literature in my opinion.

Maybe you could get another modder/writer to edit/write the story you want to put forth? I understand story, and that the translation of a story is nothing, if the idea of the story isn't well thought out. You can translate the movie "meet the spartans" into as many languages as you want, flawlessly, but it will still suck. Many writers get people to edit there stuff for them, it's actually required for most fluent writers.

If you learn the fundamentals of questing - dialogue, NPCs, scripting, and the like - you could help design quests and other English-literate questers like myself can check over your work. Scripting is a language of it's own, so that should be no problem.

What you could also do is help design quests. You may notice that the Quests and Modeling departments have a Design and Pending Design sub-forum in addition to the others. Thinking up how a quest might go and posting it is a job that requires no promotion. Quest designers have to have a sense of control, however - TR can't just be filled with random quests that always end in a dramatic and epic battle scene. Designing a quest is sort of like writing a story and the various ways it can unfold, which may be good for you since you are a writer, and it would not require any in-game writing from you.

First of all:
My english is good enough to write storys. I only said that I sometimes write strange sentences. It does not happen often, so that would be no problem.
Second:
How can I learn that language?
Third:
I have an test reader. I know how important such things are, so I searched and found one.

Stories :P you should post your first story here, then, when youre promoted, you can post them in the Literature forum down below.

As for scripting, there are a couple scripting tutorials on our site, and you should also check out Morrowind Scripting for Dummies, which is sort of like a bible of the trade.

Jorak, your english may be great where you live, but just with the few sentences you have posted, you mispelled several very easy words. Your english is fine, it's just going to have to be edited by someone. Which is no big deal.

Correction: The words themselves aren't necessarily mispelled, but the sentence structure and grammer is wrong. Some words are mispelled.
