The first play through

Post by Malchik »

I apologise for the long post but want to explain where I am coming from before making the few points I have.

I was always a fan of MW and when the game began to become stale I liked to try mods that added new lands and quests. (As a moderator on the nexus forums I added a pinned thread about this kind of mod.) Like all fans I eagerly awaited Oblivion and like most was disappointed by the result. However rather than giving up on Ob or simply moaning about it, I and a fellow forum member - Povuholo - decided to produce a mod that would correct many of Ob's shortcomings. (In so far as the two of us working unassisted could.) We produced a very large mod with about 200 quests that uses nearly every NPC and requires the player legitimately to visit almost every dungeon. It added new rumours, dialogue topics to the rural npcs, books etc. etc. My role was to invent (nearly all) the quests and produce all dialogue and documents required. After Pov had put them into the game I then had to test them. As you can imagine it was a huge undertaking and took us almost 3 years to complete. AND after issuing it in August this year we decided to prepare an add-on for distribution in the spring on which I was working to the end of September.

Only then, in the lull before the final testing, have I been able to get back to MW.

In that three years much as been issued and I am 'catching up'. TR is one such mod. It means that I have come to it very late and almost certainly everything I noticed will have been said before. At first I was not going to post but then I thought that provided I explain my position it would be better to record what I found. What is known and in hand already can be ignored, maybe all of it, and if anything is new or helpful, so much the better. So here goes.

Firstly I must say how much I have enjoyed playing the Maps. From experience I know the time it all takes and I have nothing but praise for everyone involved. The small points I raise are very minor ones, except perhaps for the last. I look forward to Map 2 quests and Map 3 in time.

Questions

I could not get the Shrine of Solitude to work and assume it is because it is on map 2 which has not been activated? If this is not so what have I overlooked? If it is, should the priest not say the shrine is 'temporarily closed for maintenance' or something?

There is a quest 'Which witch' in the CS which I never saw. Is there a trigger I have not yet found and if so what is it?

When clearing the map at a waterfall north of the Boethia falls the water shows up black on my map. Other examples of the same water (which appears is a surface only layer like 'scum' without real water beneath) show up as blue. Any clues as to why it might not just here?

Minor Niggles

One Mithras quest requires you to find a miner in Ranyon-Ruhn. Once you have, the individual says they will go to the mine next day. They do not go anywhere. I would have thought that was an easy move to script and would add to the realism. It might be necessary to change the odd line of dialogue.

The final FG quest in Firewatch is a bit odd. If you take the guy to the boat you get the question 'Do you want to lock the door?' before you have opened it. Once you enter the room the question comes up again automatically even though your mark has not at this point followed you in. The game hangs and might make people think it has crashed. After a minute or so you can move again and at this point only can you get the guy into the room. From then it is okay. However after reporting back to the FG and ending the quest, if you return to the journalist she says 'why bring him in here, get out' or words to that effect. Probably something has been missed out so she still thinks he is following. Might be worth having a quick check over that quest.

Several times I received a message asking if I had invented a new type of gold. I think this must be 'cursed gold'. Obviously something needs yet to be done so the message does not appear. It does not affect the game play in any other way.

Dialogue topics causing the game to crash

Asking anyone about 'animal products' send my PC into paroxysms of despair. After my eardrums have been assailed by its loud complaints I have to restart. A similar problem occured in Alt Bosara with the topic 'Master Vaerin' although I only asked that once.

Odd probs apparently unique to my game

These have been raised already and are repeated here only for the sake of completeness.

The fight between Mithras and Rathra's agent did not end. Following advice from the forum I used 'enable player controls' to move and kill the agent by setting his health at 0. After that the quest line finshed properly.

In Lost in Translation, the quest works fine if I buy a scroll of Leaguestep from one of Port Telvannis's enchanters. However if I pick up the lost scroll in the Avenue bedroom I cannot leave the room or open my inventory without the game crashing. The problem seems to be with the scroll, not the quest.

Final potential prob

TR is following the original MW approach of making each dungeon individual (a failing of Ob our mod in part addresses). It makes exploring them outside the quests fun. In MW it was easy to enter a quest dungeon early but the worst that could happen was that a quest item was then 'sold'. You could not screw up the quest line of any faction. If you killed someone who later turned out to be a Morag Tong mark for instance, the death was acknowledged when the quest was offered only. When exploring TR I killed the necromancer whose death is the requirement of MG quest 6. I was not doing the MG quests then as I was not at a high enough rank. When I went back to doing them they thanked me for doing quest 6 and offered quest 7 omitting 5 completely. Now, one quest may not seem much but might the same have happened if I had not done ANY MG quests? I do not know the extent to which this might cause problems but from working on Ob I do know that with a linear quest line getting a particular Journal Entry too early can screw up the whole thing. I feel the TR quest developers might want to check this out and see it doesn't apply elsewhere (such as Jalian's Bounty in the Fighters Guild.) Simple solutions are possible - one would be not to have the necromancer in the cave until the quest is offered another is to keep the cave locked until needed.

Well, that's it! If all this is known and in hand so much the better and I apologise for wasting the readers' time. If anything is new and helpful the post serves its purpose.

Cheers,

A lot of valid points there, thanks. To address a few of your queries:

This quest was removed from Map 1 and has be redone for Map 2.

This is a known issue and should be corrected in our latest (internal) file.

Fixed in latest (internal) file.

I think the Antediluvian Secrets release fixes the animal products error. Make sure you are using the esm files from the AS release only.

What is the name of your mod and where can I download it?

I did a little googling and I believe it is called Kragenir's Death Quest. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm planning on trying it after I finish Stirk.
