New Writer seeking topic.
Okay I'm new here, so what is current and what needs work? Are we still concentrating on Hammerfell stories and lore? I'm sure we're all skilled at what we do but I just want to say that I aim to really make an impact here. Ever since I started playing Morrowind and then subsequently Daggerfall (yeah backwards I know!) I've wanted to see something like Tamriel Rebuilt and I don't know why I never found this place sooner! My computer sucks so you'll likely not see any wicked cool mods from me, but I can write and playtest. I've playtested a couple times before and always had positive feedback in regards to my attention too detail. As far as writing goes, I'm just a literary cannon waiting to be aimed at a topic. So lets have some suggestions for the new guy huh!

It might help if you read this http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/old_forum/viewtopic.php?t=22311 (Hammerfell is no longer a part of TR any more, and instead a separate mod headed by one of our admins)
TR already has many, many books for Morrowind, and likely won't need many more, but if you first get promoted for one of our other areas that require modders (Interiors, Exteriors, Quests and Modelling) and demonstrate an interest and skill in literature, you can get promoted for that, too.
It just isn't something we can give modder status to someone for.
If you want to have a go at creating a showcase for interiors or exteriors, I would be only too happy to help you get promoted with showcase reviews and advice, and I'm sure others would be able to help you with showcases for the other departments

If you like writing, you can try your hand at quests! We're in need of quest writers, so if you want to join our department: we need three or four miscellaneous quests for Tel Muthada, go there (in game or in the construction set) and familiarize yourself with the residents. Then think of a couple of nice quests, plan them out and write it down so a quest scripter can put them in the game. Or, if you want, you can try scripting a quest of your own.
(someone should probably move this to showcases then)

Basic Idea
Here's a basic idea for a misc. quest in Tel Muthada. It's a simple "escaped slave" quest idea with several different outcomes and rewards. It's a basic outline for now, but if it's acceptable i'll write it out in much more detail, and even begin to script it if necessary.
Thanks
Tel Muthada Misc. Quest
the escaped slave
While speaking to guards at Tel Muthada the player will learn that they are under probationary discipline over a recent escaped slave incident. Upon asking around the local population, the player will learn three things,
1.) There is a Telvanni guard who is sympathetic to slaves in Morrowind
2.) A fellow slave, and friend of Utadeeme's was close enough to him to find out his plans, and depending on the players speech skill, will share this information with the player
3.) The local slaver is offering a reward for the return of his escaped slave
From this point the player has two options, depending on their personal feelings towards slavery/telvanni
1.) Using the clues from Utadeeme's fellow slave and Khajit lover Shabhira, you can track down his whereabouts, and offer to help him gain his freedom, by escorting him to a safe location. Alternatively, you can speak to the guard who is revealed to have sympathy for slaves, and find out not only his whereabouts, but that he has also given Utadeeme the key to escape. Fortunately, he will already be waiting at a makeshift raft he built on th
e water, which will serve as his escape. Unfortunately, he is unwilling to leave unless Shabhira is freed with him. At this point, he will give you the key he used to escape his cell, and ask you to bring back his lover. The player must then go back to Tel Muthada, and free the Shabhira, and escort her back to Utadeeme and his raft. This will complete the quest with this outcome. The slaves have little to offer for a reward, but Utadeeme will be an expert in a stealth skill, sneak or lockpicking... and offer to train the player. The player will also have additional favor in the Twin Lamps organization.
Upon returning to Tel Muthada, the player will learn that the Captain of the Guards, has been expelled for a second slave escape. He will then be found in the local tavern, drowning his sorrows.
2.) The player may use clues from Shabhira <lie required> and dicover his location, and turn him into the guards, or alternatively, threatening to reveal the sympathetic-guards secret will also yield the slaves location. Threatening harm to Shabhira will convince him to come back with you. When he is returned, this will gain the player favor with Telvanni, and a moderate reward from the slaver. Additionally, the guard who helped Utadeeme to escape will have resigned.
Thanks

Why did you necromance this thread? Also, Tel Muthada miscellaneous quests are already finished.

I'm new here, so I don't know much about the landscape and towns of TR, but how about this:Why wrote:If you like writing, you can try your hand at quests! An alchemist located somewhere in a city (Maybe Almelexia, or another medium-sized town in the Sacred East) has recently been robbed by two theives, who took all of his gems. He says that he didn't see much after they knocked him hard on the head, but he remembered seeing that one of the theives was a Wood Elf, and the other an Argonian. The alchemist says that he had an order due for one of his more expensive clients that required some of those gems, and he runs the risk of losing a lot of septims and possibly closing his apothecary. You are then asked to help.
If the player agrees to help, the alchemist suggests that you ask people around town about a Wood Elf and an Argonian running out of town in the dark. One person (maybe a neighbor to the apothecary, or a town guard) says that he saw them running out of town heading north. Heading to the nearest town north (maybe Firewatch or something, I'm not familiar with the landmarks and cities of TR) they say that they have been having some trouble with bandits in their town too, but not so much as to get the town guard to investigate. They say that the bandits live in a cave nearby (don't know the landscape) and that the Wood Elf and Argonian are probably in their circle.
So the player heads off in search of the bandits lair. Once the player finds the cave (marked with a Redguard standing guard outside of the entrance) the player heads into the cave. The player then clears out the cave like any other TES quest, possibly seeing and slaughtering the Wood Elf and the Argonian the alchemist mentioned. Upon searching the Wood Elf's body, the player will find a note. The note says contains the instructions given to the Wood Elf, revealing that the boss of the bandits is in a small room somewhere deep in the cave, and the boss needed those gems badly.
When the player finds the boss (maybe a Khajiit) and kills him, the player will search through the various chests of gold and other loot the bandits have stolen over a long period of time. However, the player does not find any of the stolen gems inside any of the containers. Upon reading the boss's journal, it is revealed that the bandits are in touch with some smugglers, and that the boss of the bandits had already sent the gems to Port Telvannis to be shipped out to Elsweyr (either Torval or Senchal; can't remember which is the port town) to purchase some skooma for the bandit boss, who describes that he had run out of skooma a week ago, and that he desperately needed the skooma.
So the player heads for Port Telvannis. I forgot to mention that the journal contained the location of the smuggler's den (hidden somewhere in the sewers (if there are any) near the actual port) and so that's the player's general direction. Going into the sewers, the player eventually finds the location the bandit boss's journal described; three hostile people are huddled around a bunch of crates and barrels. The player then cuts down all of these men (and possibly women?) and finds another journal somewhere nearby (maybe in a small office for the smuggler boss?) that details how the bandit boss promised them a prize worth more than the gems they were tasked to smuggle to Elsweyr, and how they were just going to load them onto a boat headed in that direction today. Pretty convenient timing for our hero, eh?
Anyway, the player finds the gems inside one or several of the crates. The player then returns to the alchemist, pouch full of valuable gems, and tells the alchemist about all of the events that transpired over the course of the player's search for gems. The alchemist is pleased, and rewards the player with some gold and an enchanted shortblade (you guys can come up with the enchantments, if you like).
That's just an idea. I'm not sure about all the other possible outcomes (maybe one of the townspeople are in league with the bandits, and will purposefully point you in the wrong direction? Or maybe the Khajiit bandit boss was in fact the alchemist's client, and either didn't realize or knowingly stole the gems for his need of skooma was that great?) I don't know the specifics, but maybe you guys can task me with writing the dialog and a detailed story of this possible quest? Reply to this if you think this is a good idea, and you'd like me to flesh it out more.
But that's just my opinion, so it's likely completely stupid.
Hey Lexicon, your efforts are appreciated, but its best to check the date of the latest posts in a thread before you respond. For example, this thread is from 2010, and someone else has already got in trouble for doing what we call "thread necromancy" or raising a thread from the proverbial dead.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to really read the post, only the first sentence or so.
