I have started working on the realization of an idea I had recently. I know that there was Morrowind Online, but its functionality was very limited - 2 players only, no chat, lagginess and instability. I'm not saying I'd be able to make anything better ATM, especially in terms of the later two issues, but maybe it's still worth a try...
Things which IMO are relatively easy to implement:
> basic world exploring for 8 (or maybe more) players
> ingame chat
Things which I think are possible and may be added later:
> synchronized stats
> synchronized inventories / equipped items
> exchanging of items
> shared quests (if someone makes them)
> a small shared area (like a house), which would be fully synchronized, with all items etc.
Things which I think are nearly impossible:
> coop/pvp fights (an isolated pvp arena may be doable though)
> sharing the whole world (let's wait for OpenMW )
I haven't done much as yet, but setting up and running a basic, relatively stable 4-player session today was a nice little success for sure
Yet another try on TES3 multiplayer
