Mephala Statue

Post by Ashstaar »

I decided to try and make the tr Mephala statue a bit more "alive" and not so "stiff". Here is a pic of what I did and the nif file.

OK. Here is another version of the statue. I positioned the arms and hands better than before. Also fixed the hair as the head was bleeding through in back.

Even cooler would be making it a non-segmented thing.

let's face it, it's a bad model at the core. The entire body and face needs to be replaced, if you ask me. Ashstaar's version definitely is a vast improvement, but changing the pose doesn't solve the underlying problem of it looking like a big frozen NPC wearing Azura's robe and spider legs attached to her back.

I agree, kill with fire please and start from scratch. How did this ever end up in Data makes me wonder...

2003 to 2005 had different standards. That explains away most of TR Data.

Ashstaar's modification is a step in the right direction but a completely new model (with eight limbs only!) would be better.

I'd like to point out I'm rather partial to the idea of her not having a statue at all. For one, she didn't in vanilla and it also fits her atmosphere as a shadowy figure in the background.

If people do insist she gets a statue, I'd strongly suggest cutting out the whole eight spider legs thing. Face it, the whole spider vibe is pretty camp and Daggerfallish. Oblivion didn't even do that. Vivec talks about her quite a lot as his prefiguration, and only ever uses the word "web" once in an indirect way. If you want to do a Morrowind spin on Mephala, the "Black Hands" imagery is far more important for her. Look at Myzel's fresco, too.

Conceal her face in any statue maybe. Conceal as much of her as possible, with only the suggestion of too many arms.

Mephala does not have a statue in Skyrim either. In Oblivion the statue just looked kind of like Kali the Hindu goddess of death/destrution. I'm fine with no statue. Just thought I would try to improve on what was already there. As for making one from scratch I am not that good yet. So that will have to be someone else's task. I like the idea of something shadowy/slightly abstract. Maybe referencing the original tapestry in the game already. Mephala is the "webspinner" but I see it more as "sewing" the threads/web of treachery.
