Black Marsh Fly swarms

Post by Cicero »

Don't know if this has been brought up before, but in TES lore, there are small flesh eating flies that reside in Black Marsh. The story was that it was impossible for the Imperials to colonize black marsh because of these flies. I am wondering if it would be possible to have a particle effect that is made up of lots of flies that move around the argon boarder and some of the deshaan plains? It wouldn't be a creature so they cannot be attacked, and they won't attack you. It would just be a particle effect moving around in a certain radius where if the player walks into the swarm, they would start to lose health. Just an idea.

Anyone have any thoughts?

A swarm particle effect should work. A swarm creature might, too. (As seen in Diablo II and, I think, III) I think both ideas are worthwhile.
The flies you mention were in a very different part of Black Marsh (the western, as opposed to the northern border), but as they're an interesting concept and would lend to the Argon Jungle's unwelcoming nature I think that detail can be waived aside. As Morrowind's insects are all supposed to be oversized, Black Marsh seems like the only real part of the province where the idea would work.
I suspect the main reason for the lack of replies to the idea is that the Argon Jungle is so far off. Several good ideas have already been mentioned for the region, but it's hard to say if those ideas will be remembered when we finally get around to working on it.

Yeah, I figured that was the case, but thank you for replying, I just wanted to put that idea out there :).

What about using the dragonfly-like things (re-textured) from Bethesda's Bitter Coast Sounds plugin?

That's what I was thinking too, although it would be slightly different as the flies would be a lot smaller and would move around the map some what

Nothing a little tweaking in NifSkope + some scripting couldn't solve.

Exactly, that's all it would take. Really easy.
