Copper armor concepts
I thought we could get more input if we started this as it's own thread. I'm going to repost my concept drawing.

For those who haven't seen the previous discussion. It is the general concensus that the helmet is going to be replaced with a corinthian style helmet.
I'm going to start on the cuirass. I'm also going to try to get the textures together.
For the color scheme, I was thinking of using a polished copper for the plates, but a dark wrought iron for the chain mail. I think that will give us a better contrast than silver. Also, maybe Morden can work his magic to make old copper variant textures with verdigras (when copper gets the greenish tarnish).
Please re-post the pics from the concept art thread, and the .max files for work-to-date.

Hmmmm. You're into fantasy anime, eh? Anyway, looks like it's elven made, at least to me. As for the helmet ... corinthian would be great, but add some ornaments, and make it's shape a little less roundish. Or maybe Colovian? They're heavily mer-influenced, and deserve something cooler looking than banana yellow suede jump suits with santa's elves type hats.

copper... there was a reason copper was abandoned as a metal for tools and weapons back in the copper age, about 7000 bc... it's too soft to be effective, compared to steel. Why would anyone wear copper armor or use copper weapons... but if the game has gold armor (even softer than copper), sure, why not copper...

I hear ya Noir. That's why I tried to make the plates smaller. I figured the chain mail was going to be doing all of the work. (which is why I don't want the chainmail to be made of copper). The actual copper is just decorative.

Edit: Then again. Morrowind uses ebony and glass (crystal) neither of which are hard, but both are used as some kind of super strong material. Maybe Morrowind's copper is the same way. We could make it as hard or rare as we like, if we validate it with books or dialogues.

I think that the glass and ebony in their seperate armours and more decorative than part of the armour, mabie not the ebony(seems to be some kind of rock substance in morrowind or mabie metal) but the glass armourdefinately has some metal in it and only a few bits of glass sticking out to make it look good.
The point of copper was really to take the place of chitin(low quality beginner's and npc/creature weapon) in the rest of the empire.
The armor and swords look good, but the axe a little too ornate(and looks like the cleaver of st felms ) should look cheap and simple.

i think that gold armour served more or less an ornamental & ceremonial purpose instead of being worn in an actually skirmish.
i mean u dont see soldiers wearing gold armour charging into battle from anywhere right??
the only ones ive seen that have gold on them are for lining the sides and patterns on the steel plates.
gold armour is ok...... but please dont make it made out of a WHOLE piece of gold.
1. Gold is almost as heavy as lead. and thats fricking heavy.
2. gold is way tooooo soft unless its mixed with other metals to make it softer. thats why most rings are not 100% pure gold, but mixed with carbon and other junk in it. (other metallic molecules mess up the orderly and layered structure of gold)

Awww Damn!!!!
I was about halfway done with some relatively ornate copper armor. I'm going to go back and re-do all of my textures.
One cheap suit of beginners armor coming up.

I'm not sure I'm cut out for this armor business. Oh, and did anyone notice that the silver armor still needs to be fleshed out (only has one helm and two cuirasses). Maybe we can use some of the concepts for that.

So far we haven't used them and i don't think we plan to use textures like that. I actually don't even think those are textures, just materials made in 3dsmax.
Vorrheis, you are definetly cut out for doing armor The bonemold and organic armors have been great.

Copper armor concepts
nice armor dude. and love your creatures!
@prom I use Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004..basically a photoshop clone with extra web features. I either draw the texture myself or create it by using the rubber stamp tool to form the shape i want out of photographs or other morrowind textures.
The problem with drawing them by hand with a line tool is that it takes a long time and you have to be careful that the final product is more than just a series of shapes drawn onto a texture with black lines. If you can blend textures and use the burn and dodge tools to add depth you can get a very natural looking texture quite easily. You can make really nice hand drawn ones.. i'm just saying that its a lot harder to get it to the point where it looks natural.
The majority of bethesda's armor textures come from photographs of real world armor peices... trust me... i've spent a lot of time with these.

Okay,
All I have so far is a sword. I think it could either be the longsword or the broadsword, you decide.
http://www.cuneo.us/tesmw/images/vorrheis/copper_longsword.jpg
I'm including the .max file and the textures so, please, someone load this into max and make the rest of the swords and daggers. I made most of the textures by adjusting the color balance on silver textures. In the midtone range, you max out red and yellow. I'm sure that if you play with it enough you will get it to match.
Anyway, I'm working on the armor, but I'm afraid I need to stop for a while. It just isn't coming out as I'd like. I'm going to go work on some creatures for a while to get my spirits back up.

I agree that it looks more like a short sword to me.
I think it will took better if the color is more "dull", and not that shiny, as it makes it look cheaper (thats the whole concept isnt it?).
As for the shields to be made as ancient Greek ones, i would love to see them (as a Greek myself), but i believe they shouldent. In my experience with Morrowind the Imperials have a Roman influence, and not ancient Greek. Or maybe they would be a nice change. Who knows.

I believe that various shield designs would be cool. What we could do is atribute them to argonians...
Think about it,
Imperials would be romans in real life,
Nords would be vikings in real life,
And curently argonians have no 'identety.
So having argonians with this armor and weapons, would be cool. Plus would emfosise their primutive nature, aka copper is more primutive then steel. And various shields could represent city states or clans within the argonia.
As for the sword, yes it does look like a short sword, probably cos of a cross guard. if you make it a bit smaller....
Anyways GREAT job. But I remember that copper weapons have already been done, in "metals of morrowind" post...look em up.

Anyway to get rid of that annoying shading at the end of shield?

tiggity!
And as for "applyig civilizations", the argonians seem more aztec or mayan to me.
Greek stuff would work better for altmer, seeing that altmer influenced imperials - just like greeks influenced romans.

DUDE!!!
That quality is mind-boggling.
Change the texture to a more brown-red and make it an "exquisite copper towershield" or something.
