(I wrote this in the Intro topic, but figured it was long enough and covered a wide enough range of subjects to warrant its own topic. If not just let me know)

Hey everyone, I’m Patali. First played Morrowind around 2004 on the original Xbox. My brother borrowed the disc from a friend. So I got home from school one day, and saw this Xbox disc that said Morrowind, and on the disc it had a picture of Caldera, which might be one of the more generic fantasy looking towns in the game (being Imperial). So from that small image, I could deduce it was a fantasy game, but had no idea what to expect otherwise. The load screens took several minutes, the game being crammed onto that old hardware, but once it started, I was shocked and amazed at the combination of it being high fantasy, first person, an RPG where you create your character (which I always loved), with a big open world where you could pick up even the smallest items. To my young mind (I was 10 or 11), it was everything I never knew I always wanted.

I haven't played the game in years. I checked on TR every couple of years. With the advent of OpenMW allowing gamepad play, I came back to the game. I’ve installed TR, LGNPC, Rebirth, Dramatic Vivec and several other smaller mods to improve my game.

OpenMW made me do more thinking about Morrowind. I’ve had ambitions of modding Skyrim or Fallout before. I come from a writing and acting background, so telling stories is my primary interest. But what I realized Morrowind had over those other games, was the lack of voice acting. Not requiring voice acting blows the doors off of what is feasible in writing quests (as without V.A, or with bad sound quality or acting, it will create a disconnect in the future titles when playing those modded quests). All Morrowind needs is good writing, which I'd like to think I'm okay at.

I have a love of character, and emotionally poignant stories. TR, still being in its unfinished state from its organization issues and eventual restructure, provides a perfect canvas for people like me who want to write quests. Vvardenfell is already packed, so instead of just doing quest mods there, why not help you guys? It basically guarantees that your quests will be played by many people, one day, eventually.

What really did it was seeing the combination of OpenMW and TR. OpenMW has potential to fix all the main issues people have with Morrowind, and TR and PT could expand the content to truly remain the most detailed game world ever created. So much potential in this now old game we all love so much.

The effort the members of the TR team have made to provide a quality product that matches perfectly with the tone of the original game, is incredible. I look forward to working in TR once my scripting and CS skills reach the level of quality you guys require. I’ll also need to finish this playthrough of the game again, LGNPC and TR, to get an idea of what kinds of quests have already been done. Looking forward to long discussions and helping build this wonderful game.

I’m also convinced that voice acting largely killed dialogue and characters in the recent games…

Thanks guys! I look most forward to starting with some small miscellanious quests in whatever region currently needs it. I have a pretty good sense of Dunmer culture, heiarchy, etc, and the overall sense of tradgedy, and at times impending doom, Morrowind gets across. It’s truly that reason it is such a beautiful game. So many Dunmer with so many sad stories, despite their incredible faith and conviction. I love reading old discussions you guys have had about how Morrowind is indeed falling apart, in a sense. On a personal level with some NPCs, and a greater scale of the province as a whole (and indeed Tamriel going even larger at the time of TES3), there’s such a beautiful sense of tradgedy. I hope to capture those elements while telling original stories. But as I said, I have a full playthrough, followed by a lot of work and study with the tools, before I get there. So I can’t exactly promise anything without being able to show you guys any work, but rest asured, I have a deep love of the game and gameworld, and want to contribute.
