Welcome to Tamriel Rebuilt !

Tamriel Rebuilt is a modding project that adds Morrowind's mainland to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for you to explore. We follow Bethesda Softworks' original lore and creative vision so that you never lose the sense of a coherent game world.

To date, about half of the mainland is playable, with additional in-progress work available for preview. Seek out exciting new adventures in the Telvanni east, the Indoril heartland, and the contentious Aanthirin region. Download Tamriel Rebuilt here

Our team of artists, modders, and writers is passionate about expanding Morrowind into a whole province, complete with diverse new landscapes, cities, stories, and hidden secrets. Though the project is over two decades old, work continues with people like you joining periodically. You can help us reach our goal by becoming a developer today, no experience required.

Also check out Project Tamriel, our sister project. Through shared assets and lore, we are coordinating the (re)building of much more than Morrowind alone.

ESO Lore Overhaul: Character Creation Edition - TAKE TWO

So, first with an apology. An error with the website database ate my old post. I'm afraid this one will not be nearly as entertaining and a bit shorter. EDIT: A kind contributor managed to get my original post back! Spoilered here for now because I am lazy...though I think you may be more entertained by the writing in the original, I've updated my thoughts a little on the Dragonknight class, so I will keep the second version of this post as the "main" one to prevent further confusion.

E-e--e-excuse me, we are editing vanilla dialogue

First the good news: our Spring Release is progressing at a steady pace.

Pretty pictures mean things are going to be alright.

We also want to announce that Tamriel Rebuilt is going to include a fix for a common dialogue bug, by editing a line of vanilla dialogue.

Picture this: your Nerevarine newly vanquished Dagoth Ur, descends from Red Mountain, and goes to turn in some other quest. He approaches a fairly high-level NPC, talks to them to grab the quest reward, but then...

Ow! My immersion!

What you have encountered is one of the most annoying bugs in Morrowind.

As the "E-e-e-excuse me" reply is straight on top of two replies filtered to the Commoner class (which it also overwrites) and expresses the right sentiment, it seems that these were originally intended to be filtered to the Pauper class. By filtering it correctly, the poorest folk of Tamriel will continue to fawningly stammer over you like the hero you are, while everybody else can move on with their lives and insult your clothing or tell you about the local quest hooks.

This fix is adopted in coordination with the province mods, Province:Cyrodiil and Skyrim:Home of the Nords, as well as Patch for Purists.
Who else does anything with these lines?
Aside from the big province mods, this line is mainly edited by bug-fixing patches.
The Morrowind Patch Project (only 1.6.6. was tested) adds the same filter, but also strangely relocates these replies at the very bottom.
The Patch for Purists currently implements a different fix, but its creator Half11 is going to change this to the same filter the province mods will use.

In short: for most players very little will change. For those with an unpatched game (not advisable), an older patch or a different Nerevarine greeting fix, suddenly old replies will reappear. For modders interested in the technical details and reasons behind this change, please read on.

Status Update: Spring 2018

As all project managers know, a fixed scope and a fixed release date are often incompatible. You end up either cutting or half-implementing features to meet a deadline, or you end up delivering the full product late.

This, as it turns out, is also the case for TR1803, our planned and announced as-such March release.

It is obvious right now that the deadline we set ourselves is not possible to keep. As such, we are releasing it when our content criteria are met, which, at the time of this update, should still be in Spring 2018.

The reasons for this are simple: content scope and quests.

Content Scope

Around half a year ago, we were undertaking the Aanthirin visual overhaul and planning ahead on Old Ebonheart. This, we felt, would be the next milestone release - the first one in scope to "Sacred East" and TR1609 "Tamriel Data". As such, we decided on a set line of features, including questlines for the guilds and factions present in Old Ebonheart and its surroundings.

Displayed are the borders of our internal Section Files, with planned progression.
From left to right the sections are: Roryn's Bluff, Hlaalu-Thirr, Old Ebonheart, Indoril-Thir, the southern section is Lake Andaram.

As it turned out, this became a problem for several reasons.

As mentioned in our last status update, we develop Tamriel Rebuilt in several individual "section file" esps. The section files which we considered for this release contained the eastern bank of the Aanthirin, including the settlement of Roa Dyr, which is currently under reconstruction as an Indoril Chapel-Stronghold, and Almas-Thirr, which, while already containing NPCs and dialogues, would need its own questlines as well.

In the end, it was decided that these two settlements will be added to TR_Mainland in a future release.
For the Spring release we are including Old Ebonheart itself and the settlements of Felms Ithul, Vhul, and Dondril. All of these will contain new dialogue, quests, NPCs, and features. In addition to a finished Aanthirin visual overhaul, this should give everyone plenty to do and plenty to see.

Our previously planned release area, alongside the cut area. The empty marked cell in the upper right is where in the future Id Vano, the Indoril player stronghold, will be located.

What’s New

Three big changes come with the September release! Please make sure you updated Tamriel_Data to version 4 (plus the hotfix if you are using the High Def version) before updating.

First, the Faction Merger, one of the goals set out in 2014‘s Statement of Vision has begun. In this first iteration, the Mainland factions have been rolled into Vvardenfell‘s factions (for example the Mainland Great House Telvanni members all belong to House Telvanni).

For little impact on the gameplay on Vvardenfell, TR_Mainland simply contains the new faction tags, and additional quests. All content is optional and nothing changes on Vvardenfell.
For additional gameplay changes, a new plugin, TR_Factions has been made available, that will eventually contain our overhaul to the faction endgame questlines. For now, it contains additional quests on the mainland councillors for the budding Telvanni Hortator, unified faction reaction tables and adjusted rank requirements.
This all works without further changes for your new character. For existing characters, however, you will need to load the included TR_ConvertFactionProgress.esp once to change your mainland faction progress into progress for the new, merged, factions.

Second, the Aanthirin visual overhaul has begun. In an attempt to give the mouth of the Thirr up to Lake Andaram a distinct flavor, the Ascadian Isles trees and ground are in the process of being replaced with a new, orange-greenish palette. This will give additional visual consistency when our exterior development moves further south into the orange Thirr Valley and the red canyons of Shipal-Shin. Of course, this work moves in parallel with efforts to make both river banks ready for merging into TR_Mainland. Settlement corrections, bugfixes, and new dialogue has been implemented and continues to be in the works.

TR1709 – Your once and future update woes

With the release of TR1709 this week, the faction merger will be one of the most impactful changes to Tamriel Rebuilt since the data merge with the Project Tamriel projects (Province Cyrodiil and Skyrim: Home of the Nords) into the Tamriel_Data framework.

Like the move to Tamriel_Data, it will impact your savegame. Unlike Tamriel_Data, the filepatcher is not going to help you this time (unless you are a modder and used some of the deprecated IDs).

The new TR_Mainland will only contain the new faction assignments. All content on the mainland will continue to be optional and nothing is going to change on Vvardenfell. For additional gameplay changes, a new plugin, TR_Factions will be made available. In this first iteration, it will contain additional quests for the Telvanni Hortator questline, as well as unified faction reaction tables and adjusted rank requirements.

First of all, if you plan on starting a new game once you have TR1709 released, none of this applies to you. A new game is entirely without the unfortunate problems that carrying over a savegame always has.

For everyone who wants to keep their save game, there are several things you must do or know:

TR1709 - Public Test

The September Release is about two weeks away and, as before, Tamriel Rebuilt calls for testers willing to brave the as-of-yet undocumented new release.

Following the status update and the decisions reached afterwards, the Tamriel Rebuilt Team has been hard at work on the release, and it would be a shame if some game-breaking bugs happened to it.

If you are a brave enough tester to find bugs, please find out more on our forums.

TR Status Update

Before you TL;DR, please read this!

There are some very important questions and feedback we want you to give. Tamriel Rebuilt is often seen as unapproachable, and this is most often because people think we don't want or see feedback.

If you are just going to skim the update anyway, please scroll down or click here and reply wherever this was posted or in our status update feedback thread

Recapping 2016/2017

Tamriel Rebuilt's last two releases, 1612 and the 1706 patch were bugfixes, dealing both with a host of long-running problems as well as additional bugs that occured due to moving data and identifier structures.

1609, the last content release, saw additional exterior and interior work, and a region and city name revamp that reconciled TR's release with the names and borders that had been used internally for planning. Both these and the move to the unified data structure of Tamriel Data have allowed us to progress in a more organized fashion than before as less time is spent adjusting planning and implementation against each other.

1612 saw the first public testing period for a TR release. Due to the good results on all sides, we are looking into another 2 week public testing period for 1709. As the release window is somewhat fluid, this is unfortunately not guaranteed.

Two new Section Files were created during this time. Internally, all landmass that is not part of TR_Mainland is held in an TR_Indev ESP. When a part of TR_Indev is about to move beyond exterior and (some) interior work, it is cut out into a new Section File, to allow for NPC placement, dialogue and quest editing, and finishing touches to its exterior and interior cells.
For each release, TR_Indev and the Section Files are merged back into TR_Preview.

Meanwhile, asset creation has sped up considerably, but unfortunately there are still not enough of them to start working on the Deshaan as of yet.
