Penitent's Ring
Description:
During the Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Forgiveness quest for the Tribunal Temple in Andothren, we are directed to pick up the Penitent's Ring from the table in front of Llaros Sadas in the Monastery of St. Aralor caverns. However, the ring is flagged as Owned, and picking it up gets reported as a crime, expelling the player from the Temple Faction.

Did you start a new game or have you updated to 23.10 mid-save?
This issue has been fixed in 23.10 - the ring is now owned by the Layman rank in the Temple faction, which means that if you've joined the Temple, you can pick up the ring freely. So either this is a save game issue, or you're running another mod which breaks the ring again.

This is a new game with the update installed on it before starting. The only thing I changed was the hotfix I installed last week. Could that do it?

I think it has to be mod conflict then. If you have TR_Hotfix.esp enabled, then you need to disable that because that was meant for the previous release, not the current one. If not, can you please post your load order here?
