Hey all!

So, I've read this article today https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/content/whos-there-not-knock-knock-joke-sadly and I would like to know what should I do to fix this problem on my end? Gladly I don't have many mods installed, so I could check what mods cause this issue for me relatively quickly (I guess).

Could anyone waste a little bit of their time and explain how can I fix it? For example I have "Better Clothes" mod, which supposedly introduces this bug. How should I modify it to eliminate this problem?

Any help would be appreciated. I am not a complete noob, so don't worry and throw as much technical information at me as you want. I'll do my best and try to understand it.

Another more simple question is: should I make a multipatch using tes3cmd if I install Tamriel Rebuilt?

Here is my mod list (not including TR):
Morrowind Code Patch 2.4
Patch for Purists 3.0.5
MGE XE 0.10.1 (but with latest nigtly builds of MWSE)
Morrowind Optimization Patch 7.0
Better Bodies 2.4
New Beast Bodies 3.3 clean
Better Heads 2.0
Better Morrowind Armor 0.5.2RC
Better Clothes 1.1
More Better Clothes
More Better Clothes - Arms Fix
Animation Compilation 0.40
GCD v108 with Startscript, fixed [Galsiah]
Graphic Herbalism MWSE 1.04
Better Dialogue Font
EasyMCM 1.41
Weapon Sheathing 1.4
Expeditious Exit 1.2.1
Lower First Person Sneak Mode
No Arrow Weight
Perfect Placement
Welcome to the Arena

And that's it... I use tes3cmd to clean a few mods, but I never used multipatch, since there was no reason to make one. So, should I make one when I install TR, or is it unnecessary?

And last question is about dialogue lags... I have played TR a long time ago and I had this problem where once you install TR some dialogue options (eg choose "Balmora" topic) cause significant lags during conversations. I noticed the same is happening in latest version of TR. Is there something that can be done about it?

Thanks!

Hi.

Basically, the best way to fix this is to delete the offending line with TESAME (the link contains details). It very neatly solves pretty much all problems that could crop up; an edge case would be if the inserted dialogue needs to be very high up in order to override a different one, but I do not believe this to be the case (and certainly is not the case for Better Clothes).

I do not know what multipatch actually does. As TR mostly overrides things intentionally (TR_Factions for faction requirements and TR_Travels for NPC edits), it probably would be better to do it if you are using these esps.

The dialogue lag is pretty interesting (it doesn't occur in OpenMW, for the record), but I don't know what causes it. We don't actually add any replies to the "Balmora" topic, so your guess on what's causing it is as good as mine.

Hey, thanks a lot! I didn't expect there was such an easy to use tool available to fix this problem.

So I checked all the mods I use, and I found out that only two of them alter "Who's there?". One is Better Clothes_v1.1_nac.esp (as was expected), and another is Patch for Purists - Base Patch.esm. I only deleted related lines from Better Clothes. As far as I understand "Who's there?" from Patch for Purists shouldn't cause any problems (?). I hope this will be enough to fix this bug.

As for multipatch... I don't know much about it either (that's why I have never used it obviously), but I heard many people recommend to create one. I wonder if somebody who plays TR a lot knows more about mp and why I should or shouldn't create one?

Thanks again!

Multipatch is a leveled list merge bundled with a few bug fixes (fogbugged cell fix; renamed cells don't revert to original names; summoned creatures flagged as persistent so you dont crash when you leave a cell where an NPC summoned something). You create it through tes3cmd, but can use Wrye Mash as an admin of sorts if you have both installed. If you are using mods that alter the vanilla leveled lists you will want to use it.

Do I need to worry about TR's leveled lists? You can see my full mod list in the original post btw. Any confclicts between the base game, Patch for Purists and TR?

I see nothing in your list of mods that changes the leveled lists, to my knowledge. This would be a mod that adds new creatures, for instance, or adds new items that you can find as loot. TR has its own leveled lists. Patch for Purists just fixes bugs in the base game. But the patch fixes the other bugs I mentioned apart from just resolving the leveled list issues. The summoning bug can ruin saved games unless you know how to edit the save file. It's very easy to create the patch, so you might find it worthwhile to do so.

I see, thanks.

Sorry for the late reply, but leave Patch for Purists's edits alone. It does things mostly right, and will do things completely right next release.

What you are seeing is UMP's added entry, just dummied out. It's not going to affect anything and as such can be left alone.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that it works perfectly fine now. This bug never occurs for me after I cleaned Better Clothes mod. I think you guys should mention this tool in the article about "Who's there?" bug since it's a pretty common issue and many clueless people like me who'll stumble upon it will be able to easily fix it.

As for dialogue lags... If somebody knows anything about this problem, please let me know. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
