This is a showcase featuring a dialogue-based quest with two NPCs: Othrius and Tolnar. They can be found in Bitter Coast 0, -10 (Tolnar can be seen near Abaesen-Pulu egg mine, and Othrius is a little further northwest). Going up from Seyda Neen, the player will encounter Othrius first. Othrius will claim that a zombie is blocking the road up ahead, and will offer the player 50 gold pieces to kill it.

When the player reaches the zombie (which uses a corprus stalker model), they will find that the zombie can talk. The zombie claims to be a former business associate of Othrius's named Tolnar, and that Othrius killed him out of greed. Tolnar will ask the player to kill Othrius and retrieve a valuable ring from Othrius's body. The player can agree to do so, or kill Tolnar. If the player kills Tolnar, they can return to Othrius for the quest reward of 50 gold.

Alternately, the player can speak to Othrius again. Othrius will deny Tolnar's claim, and offer to pay double for the player to kill Tolnar. The player can refuse, leading to a fight with Othrius. Upon killing Othrius, the player must loot Tolnar's ring from his body, and return to Tolnar (not looting the ring will prompt Tolnar to ask you to retrieve it). Thus avenged, Tolnar will tell the player to keep the ring as a reward and depart from this mortal coil.

If the player accepts the counteroffer, they must go and kill Tolnar. Upon doing so, they can return to Othrius for a reward of 100 gold.

The quest also works if the player speaks to Tolnar before speaking to Othrius.

Outside of the quest .esp, the quest only requires the base game and expansions.

Greetings Clavier!

I had a quick look and while the dialogue looks to be up to par, I'm afraid the scripts need just a little bit more love for a showcase.

  • Disable Tolnar before and after the quest
  • Find the proper TR NPC scripts and make sure the scripts you create for npcs are based on these base NPC scripts (your file should be dependent on TR_Data). This is a test to make sure you know how they function, as they are needed to filter dialogue correctly across regions.
  • Add a journal entry if you kill Othrius that terminates the quest, and maybe make Tolnar respond to that
  • Rename the scripts in standard TR naming format

Also, I'm not sure if this line was a typo or not, but I can't really make sense of this one:

"Wait, %PCRace! I am no monster, but only a poor wretch you cannot rest until he has been avenged!"

Here's the edited version. Tolnar's been disabled before and after the quest. The file is now dependent on TR_Data, and the scripts follow the TR format. There is a new journal entry reflecting the player's actions if they kill Othrius without speaking to him, as well as dialogue options from Tolnar which reflect this. The scripts have been renamed into the proper TR naming format. The typo has been fixed.

-You should be able to refuse Othrius' request. Generally the player should always be able to say no, no thank you, and continue on.

-"Perhaps I should search his body and see if he had anything noteworthy" Don't give players suggestions on what they're thinking.

-No journal entry on who Tolnar is if you kill Othrius on quest start

things I don't care about right now (don't waste your time with these)

-Your journal id should have the map id in it as well

-Unused script (TolnarAlt) uncleaned from the file

I've added an option to refuse Othrius's quest. If the player speaks to Othrius again upon refusing, they will again have the option to take the quest, so they don't get locked out of it.

The comment about searching the body has been removed.

The journals have been reworked slightly. Now, Tolnar has a unique dialogue entry (in which he introduces himself by name) should the player speak to Othrius and then kill Othrius. Unique journal entries have been added for A) killing Othrius before speaking to him, B) killing Othrius immediately after speaking to him, and C) killing Othrius at Tolnar's behest.

Here is a slightly modified version of the .esp. I've added a new journal stage (70), which acts as an endpoint for players who kill Othrius immediately after speaking to him, and then turn the ring in to Tolnar. The journal as written will no longer have the abrupt mention of Tolnar without previous explanation. I also edited Tolnar's script so that he still disappears after reaching 70.
