I'm just curious to know what Akamora's future will be. I was reading some posts that you guys intend to axe the city and replace it with a smaller temple settlement? What are the reasons for that?

If that is true I will be sad to see the city go. Aside from performance issues, I enjoy the city and its quests very much.

You don't need to worry about it, those were old ideas from folks who didn't know what they were talking about, didn't have the dev roles or abilities to try to put them into practice, and haven't worked on TR since. Atrayonis still wants to write something putting that subject to rest for good form but time is always better spent elsewhere.

Haha, a little more tactfully put--

The idea was put forward because Akamora seemed out of place when considering the size of other cities and how the general economy of the region would work realistically. However, revamping would take an enormous amount of time and manpower that's better spent on making new content, plus people have fallen in love with it's current version, so the possibility of it getting changed is slim at present.

Just to toss in a third answer, (the other answers aren't wrong either), Akamora was never intended to be changed anytime soon. If it gets changed, it will be as part of the Telvannis rework that was always a hazy and distant cloud. TR is more concerned about developing new areas than redoing TR_Mainland yet again, and that will remain the case for the forseeable future.

As for the reason for Akamora's change, at the base of it it's due to a long and arguably on-going discussion on the use of the MH tileset. Basically everyone who was present, after heated argument, agreed on a compromise that required some level of rework for all MH settlements. A lot of the people who are present now do not agree with the compromise, but no alternative has been settled on, so it remains a hazy and distant cloud. In the end, I don't think it's very relevant for the time being; it's something that can by idly discussed because Akamora is not going to be reworked any time soon either way.

There are legitimate points on both sides of the Akamora dilemma. In the future, I feel it would be best to find a solution in between the extremes. Radical changes to the settlement that affect the entire region's layout are unrealistic, no matter how far into the future we punt them. Leaving everything as it currently stands, however, wouldn't reflect the lore we've built for the Indoril.

Characterizing the settlement as a large Indoril chapel could feasibly work. Extraneous interiors that aren't connected to quests could be removed to make it feel less like a city. Or maybe the central "manor" could be kept in the MH set, and the other interiors below could be reworked into a Velothi mining boomtown. That would take a lot of work (though furniture and clutter could be largely salvaged and rearranged by building the new Velothi rooms within the original interior cells), but it would at least keep all the quest actors in the same locations. The structure of quests wouldn't change, though we'd need to edit the content of some dialogue entries to reflect changes to character relationships and the setting.

Of course, I'm just throwing this out as an example of what a compromise could look like. Ultimately, I just want us to avoid a divisive fight here.

I was always under the impression that it would be reworked to have a better stage set for it for the whole 'no noble on the council' theme we have going on for it. Also isn't the town under some influence of Mephala anyway?
