Hi everyone, here are a couple of rough sketches I made for House Dres:
1. A Dres hunter, with a spear and armour made from chitin and hardened skyrender refuse 2. Dres slavers hunting Argonians near the boarder to Black Marsh
Here's a few more pieces of concept art. I made the image files a little smaller so they don't take as long to view. I hope they're helpful.
1: Line art of a Dres commoner woman, based on some of Ateiggaer's concepts 2: The same Dres woman, with colour 3: A profile of a male Bosmer, in traditional Valenwood attire 4: A concept for the extinct wamasu, next to an Argonian for size comparison 5: A wamasu swimming, with features annotated
I don't know how useful the wamasu concepts will be, since they lived in Black Marsh and have been extinct for ages during the events of Morrowind, but I think having a good idea of how they looked and behaved could be useful for references to them in books or dialogue.
Here's a concept for a potential creature for Morrowind. There is a legal document in Arille's Tradehouse that mentions 'Ash-Fowl,' and claims that serving them is prohibited under Imperial law, but there seems to be no other reference to it in the games. (https://www.imperial-library.info/content/tradehouse-notice)
Birds don't strike me as very Morrowindy, so I gave it more reptilian and insectoid features to make it sufficiently weird. It is likely unrelated to birds and is a case of convergent evolution, being more closely related to guars or nix-hounds. Ash-fowl is probably the Imperial name due to its similar appearence to the fowl found in western regions. The Dunmer will have their own name for it.
I like how those two Dres capture that poor Argonian with a net, very atmospheric.
Your commoner woman looks even more morrowindesque than mine, I also like her hair.
The Bomser is also cool, would be great if we have one day more race-specific armor. I like the use of the diluted ink for shadow and values.
The wamasu is great, I like the mixture of eel, sea devil and crocodile. In my mind I pictured him even more eel-like and longer, but your version looks also very nice. The antenna are also a cool idea.
I could see the ash-fowl being native to the Armun-Ashlands, really nice concepts keep them coming!
Thank you so much Ateiggaer! I'm hoping to work as a concept artist in the future so feedback really means a lot! I hope some of my drawings will be helpful for this project.
Here are a few sketches of Khajiit breeds based on their descriptions in a really interesting post by Kevaar. I feel like its kind of odd that we only see one breed of Khajiit in Morrowind, and I think it would be awesome to have maybe a few Cathay, Ohmes or Ohmes-Raht in more Imperialised multicultural areas like Old Ebonheart, since we see these breeds in other games. Ohmes in particular are stated to be widespread throughout the empire as their human appearence makes them more readily accepted by the other races.
I really don't know anything about modding so I'm not sure if that would be possible to implement, but if we could I reckon it would really help make Morrowind feel like part of a wider world.
Here are a couple of creatures I drew that could live around the Arnesian Jungle area.
1: A large amphibian that could inhabit the mudflats. 2: A M'Bembe, named after the mythical Mokele-Mbembe from the Congo. It's based on outdated depictions of sauropods, particularly in paintings by Charles Knight, which give off a somewhat alien feeling. They live a semi-aquatic lifestyle and could be domesticated by the locals similarly to guar. 3: A group of Dres and a Domesticated M'Bembe in the Arnesian Jungle
Here are a few plant concepts for the Deshaan and Arnesian Jungle regions.
1. A hardy shrub that grows in the Deshaan Plain 2. Small primitive plants that grow in groups around salt lakes in the Deshaan Plain. They consist of a single stalk and a bulb where they store water and nutrients 3. A bulbous flowering plant from the Deshaan Plain. It stores large quantities of water in its trunk 4. A red grass from the Deshaan Plain. It's leaves form spherical bulbs to minimise water loss 5. Primitive reeds common in the marshes and waterways throughout southeast Morrowind 6. A bulbous root that grows in the Arnesian Jungle. It has no leaves and instead absorbs nutrients from plants that grow on top of it 7. A carnivorous plant from the Arnesian Jungle. It has a symbiotic relationship with a native dragonfly; the plant holds a pool of water where the insect raises its nymphs, safe from the predators in the Jungle's rivers. By altering the acidity of its pool, the plant kills and digests some of the nymphs, while allowing the others to grow
I'm late to the party, but I just wanted to say that Dagi-Raht looks amazing, does the concept complete justice. Thank you!
