2021-09-12 Meeting Summary - Indoril tileset, Foul Murder cutscene

Queue:

Proposed Agenda

Unless another topic comes up, we will discuss the various concepts of Indoril tilesets and see if we can reach a basic agreement on how we want to move forward with them, especially in the context of Gorne. Note that there's no real need for us to come to a final decision in the meeting, so if it proves contentious or other considerations come in at a later date they can still be accomodated.

Future Releases

  • Discussing the Foul Murder cutscene and script (among other things whether it should use art at all or be handled like vanilla cutscenes)
  • Sorting out which cites have which guild halls
    • Thieves Guild
    • Morag Tong
    • How much do the Temple and Cult need this?
  • Resolving more Imperial Cult issues, perhaps up to a Template Meeting
    • IC shrines start appearing in Thirr Valley and need a better overarching characterisation
    • The faction endgame
  • Same thing for the Psijjic Order.
    • Requires Infragris and a whole lot of lore-aware people.

Meeting Notes

Indoril tileset

As somewhat expected, we weren’t able to reach any conclusion as to Indoril set usage. An asset proposal will be set up to gather any concepts and other work done towards the proposed new set, but there is a possibility that the set will not be used. Likewise, anyone making edits to Roa Dyr’s current implementation should be aware that it might still get replaced by the new set in Roa Dyr, though MH set additions should be useful in Almalexia either way.

For the discussion, to avoid confusion (in particular with using the term ‘Indoril set’), we settled on the following terms:

  • MH set - general set that appears in Tribunal, has been used as the Indoril set so far.
  • Mournhold temple - a unique building in Tribunal’s Mournhold
  • ‘chapel set’ - the new set being proposed, which would be used in and immediately around Indoril chapels. (So common houses of servants and retainers at the base of chapels might be in this set, separate settlements like Vhul would remain Velothi)
  • Velothi set - towns not immediately next to chapels, like Vhul.
  • Shack set - should be rarely used, usage is much the same as the Velothi set, an example being Dondril.
  • Old Mournhold - a set used for 1st Era Mournhold in Tribunal, also used for ruined Indoril chapels and other Indoril-associated ruins in TR.

A few points could be agreed on by those present: the MH set should still appear in Almalexia at any rate and Velothi towns of non-house Dunmer should still exist (similarly to Vos on Vvardenfell), though shacks shouldn’t be common.
More discussion on Almalexia in particular was avoided. Some people would also like to see broader use of a refurbished OM set as a separate concept to the chapel set, but that didn’t get much discussion.

Foul Murder cutscene

Nobody present for the meeting was particularly in favour for sticking to the current storyboard for the Foul Murder cutscene. While some would prefer not to have a cutscene, nobody was strongly against it, and generally it was agreed that if it’s well done it would be good to have, if not we can leave it out.
Due to vanilla precedent on Daedra being the ones involved in cutscenes, some prefer for Azura to be the narrator of this cutscene as well, though that would require a voice actor who can match her well enough.
The next step is to propose new storyboards; following the vanilla style of landscape shots (probably of Red Mountain areas, the Necrom basement and perhaps catacombs, that sort of thing) and scrolling text, the cutscene shouldn’t be too difficult to make visually or require new assets. Some suggestions were made for having particular characters, like Azura, appear in some shots.
The voice over (if there is one) and text are the main thing that will need sorting out though. New proposals will be made for the storyboard which will be judged on a case-by-case basis. If something is settled on, we can send out a (renewed) request for voice actors, perhaps packaged along with other voice acting work we will need.
